It is an understatement to conclude that singer Jill Janus is a rather complex person. If you want to know why, you should find some more info about her on the internet. In the personal lyrics on this new and third album of the ban,d you can find out a lot about her problems, too.
Compared with the predecessor, the music didn’t change a lot. Still you’ll find a mix of rather fast old school U.S. heavy metal songs with a tad of thrash. One positive thing that changed a bit is Jill’s singing, she sings less aggressive and over the top. The new album is again full of nice riffs and solos and sometimes the song structures remind a bit of King Diamond. One of the most interesting songs is “Mania”, a non-typical Huntress track, a kind of ballad with a very dark atmosphere and some doomy riffs.
This new album sure is the most refined and overthought album so far. The songs are melodic, varied, heavy, interesting and Jill’s vocals have improved. Huntress fans will like this album for certain, I just don’t know if this album has enough improvement to be the big step ahead for the band, because the difference to their 2013 album ‘Starbound Beast’ is not that big.
