Roth Brock Project – Roth Brock Project

[nyrating]

John Roth and Terry Brock met while working on Giants’s “Promised Land” record in 2009, which years later led to this album. John Roth has also been involved in another classic hard rock band: Winger and is currently the guitarist in Starship Featuring Mickey Thomas. While Terry Brock has done stuff with bands like Kansas and Strangeways and also he sang on one of my favourite hard rock releases this millennium has produced: Slamer’s Nowhere Land in 2006.

So it really shouldn’t come as a big surprise that this album is strongly rooted in the traditional 80’s hard rock. And songs like “Young Again”, “Young Gun”, “Distant Voices” (the mandatory power-ballad), “We Are” or “My City”showcases exactly what made the 80’s hard rock music so great; a strong vocalist and a brilliant guitarist in the drivers seat, strong hooks and memorable and catchy choruses.

This self-titled debut album is a solid collection of classic hard rock songs, nothing extraordinary or spectacular beyond words; no just catchy and solid hard rock like we were served in the hay-days of hard rock.

A fine album for lovers of the genre!

When I kicked this site off back in 2003, I had no idea that it would turn into what it has become. I am very proud of what we've done and achieved over the years. Musically I have a soft spot for 80s inspired hard rock, but my favourite music and bands are all to be found in the progressive universe these days.
