When Seventh Wonder made a rare live appearance at ProgPower USA on September 12-13, 2014, they went on stage twice: once on Friday, where they performed their magnum opus “Mercy Falls” in its entirety and again on Saturday, where they performed a best-of the rest set.
The shows were captured with the intend to release at some stage; now two year later it’s finally here. Frontiers Music has picked them up and the release will be available in two different versions: 2-DVD set and the Deluxe 2-CD + 2-DVD Digipack set.
As far as the live performance goes; they are technicians and musicians first and foremost, long before they will ever become entertainers, just like so many other progressive metal bands. Which means it’s more important that the show is as close to perfection as possible, technical, sacrificing the connection to the audience, which is somewhat lost at times… Tommy Karevik is a fine front-man, giving his best on both occasions, and Andreas Blomqvist is also an asset on stage.
After watching the DVDs a couple of times, I think the release is a justifiable purchase if you like Seventh Wonder and alone the fact that they perform “Mercy Falls” should trigger many fans to buy it.
Nice one!
