King Company – One for the Road

[nyrating]

Classic rock from Finland created by drummer Mirka Rantanen (Warmen, ex-Thunderstone, ex-Kotipelto), who is joined by guitarist Antti Wirman (Warmen), keyboard player Jari Pailamo (Kiuas, Ponies To Kill), bass player Time Schleifer (Enfarce) and former vocalist in Thunderstone Pasi Rantanen. Five well-established musicians in Finland, who all come from a somewhat different direction musically.

Their influences are solid rooted in the 70’s with bands like Deep Purple, Whitesnake and Rainbow rearing their ugly heads the most. On numerous occasions their metal roots show up, giving them a metal edge as well.

“One for the Road” is well crafted and executed hard rock, done by five technically skilled musicians, vocalist Pasi Rantanen does has a strong set of pipes, not that distant from Joe Lynn Turner. The guitar riffs are true to old-school classic hard rock style, the keyboards are laid back and never too dominant and the rhythm section lays down a solid foundation for the band.

And if you are into classic hard rock, 70’s style, then I suggest you give this one a serious listen. On offer we have eleven solid classic hard rock tunes, nothing spectacular: just fine rock songs that stay true to their roots.

Best moments: “One for the Road”, “In Wheels of No Return”, “Cast Away” and “One Heart”.

When I kicked this site off back in 2003, I had no idea that it would turn into what it has become. I am very proud of what we've done and achieved over the years. Musically I have a soft spot for 80s inspired hard rock, but my favourite music and bands are all to be found in the progressive universe these days.
