Burnt Out Wreck – Swallow

[nyrating]

Burnt out Wreck again. This time the review is not about the single ‘Swallow’, but rather about the album of the same name. Fans who have read my earlier review of the aforementioned single will not be surprised to hear that the album is a a groovy blend of Hard Rock with quite a bit of  Sleaze attitude. The slightly sex possessed underdogs against the world so to say. Although, there is also a hint of self irony, or how else can one explain the first song that also carries the name of the band? Also, what about the album cover? The band takes their music seriously, but they seem to take themselves with a bit of salt. After that you get the title track. Groovy Hard Rock with a massive blue collar attitude. Very befitting for this kind of music! Burnt out Wreck’s sleazy attitude prefers for them to sing more about another subject though: Women. They sing about women, they obviously adore women, they love women, write love songs for and about them… You get the idea. How much you want to read into lines like “I’m always sticking it in, she’s always pulling it out” is up to you, of course! So yes, the band seems to love their innuendos. No doubt about that.
There is also no doubt about the band takes their groovy Hard Rock very seriously though, because they are really good at what they do! Think Bon Scott era ACDC with a bit of Sleaze Metal thrown in and you have a pretty good idea as to what to expect in respect to Burnt Out Wreck’s style. But what about their quality? 9 well deserved devils!
