Booze Control – The Lizard Rider

[nyrating]

Booze Control’s “The Lizard Rider” is one of those albums that feel like a trip back in time. I know that this can be said about a lot of Heavy Metal albums, but the way how this album reminds me of Helloween’s Kai Hansen era leaves me no other choice but to start like that. Besides, there is nothing wrong with being traditional in a traditional genre. There is simply no need to reinvent Heavy Metal time and time again.

So yes, Old School Metal fans who appreciate that certain other band I mentioned earlier should think about giving this album a try. You get clean vocals that are still a bit on the rougher side, you get riffs and solos and you get that certain Old School feeling that is likely to send shivers down your spine. The only thing that you will not get are variations in pace. Pretty much the entire album is mid tempo with no real variations in either direction which is a bit of a drain on the album’s energy. Take first song “The Wizard” for instance. You get Old School Metal, clean vocals, nice solos and mid tempo speed. All in all it is a really good song that will give Old School Metal fans goosebumps. The same can can be said for most other songs too though. This is also why I consider “Gravelord” to be the best song on the album. It kicks up the speed just a little bit and is pretty much the album’s energy peak.

Anyway, 7 devils! It IS a fun album and I can honestly recommend it to any fan who is into this kind of Old School Metal!
