Scorpion Child – Acid Roulette

[nyrating]

Scorpion Child is more than just another one of the many, many bands to emerge in recent years that have their roots in the classic rock from the 70s. Their self-entitled debut album from 2013 was one of the very few that caught my attention and I was naturally very curious about their sophomore release called “Acid Roulette”.

They have gone all in on their sound this time around, this is more rounded and the keyboards/organs have taken a more prominent place in the overall sound. The retro vibe is full-blown on this album and it feels like everything has taken at least a step up. The addition of a full-time keyboard/organ player has really paid off.

Aryn Jonathan Black is still front and centre with his brilliant voice and he proves once more that he is one of the best “retro rock” vocalists around. The production is great and each song is a small gem.

Again they’ve proven themselves, and they have set the bar very high for all retro rock bands to follow.

Great album!

Best moments: “She Sings, I Kill”, “Twilight Coven” and “Addictions”.

When I kicked this site off back in 2003, I had no idea that it would turn into what it has become. I am very proud of what we've done and achieved over the years. Musically I have a soft spot for 80s inspired hard rock, but my favourite music and bands are all to be found in the progressive universe these days.
