Ripper – Experiment Of Existence

[nyrating]

This is the second album from Chilean thrash/death band Ripper and one I really like. The debut album ‘Raising the Corpse’ was o.k., but the production not that good. On this second album they sound a lot heavier and play exactly my kind of music, a 50/50 mix of thrash and death. I would describe their songs as a mix of Merciless, (early) Kreator, Sadus, Possessed, Morbid Angel and Death.

The songs are a bit technical, but never overdone. The bass lines  of Pablo Cortés have an important role in the songs, you can compare it with the leading role Steve DiGiorgio his bass has in the music of Sadus. Venus Torment his voice has the bite of Mille Petrozza and the aggression of Jeff Becerra. The songs are fast, but stay, due to the tempo changes and the impressive bass/drum combination, interesting all the time.

It is no use to make this review longer than necessary. I can advice all metalheads liking a mix of old school thrash/death with a technical bite to buy this! This album will find its way to my cd-player a lot!

Once a metal head, always a metalhead. My parents thought it would only be a period, but they were wrong. I quit to explain the beauty of metal music to others that are not into metal, because it is something you can't tell in words... It is like explaining to a teetotaller why a cold beer is so nice on a hot day... I started with bands like Accept, Metal Church, Iron Maiden and Metallica in the eighties and I think I will still listen to them when I'm stone deaf and old...
