CRIMINAL launches lyric video for ‘Animals To Gods’

Anglo-Chileans Thrashers CRIMINAL have announced their new album “Fear Itself” for release March, 11th through Metal Blade Records.

Comments Anton Reisenegger: “This song has been one of our favourites since we wrote it. It’s got many different sections, yet it flows like a stream of lava. The lyrics are about the human species reaching the pinnacle of evolution and what a one-way street that means in terms of the environment and other species. It’s based on the book ‘Sapiens: A Brief History of Mankind’ by Yuval Noah Harari, and I do realize it is unusual to base a song on a scientific book, but it was a real eye-opener for me when I read it, and I can only recommend it to anyone remotely concerned about the future of life on our planet. Despite the heavy subject matter, I don’t think the lyrics are too heady or pretentious, but rather menacing and apocalyptic.

Costin [Chioreanu, the artist also responsible for the album cover] did an absolutely fantastic job in translating the words and vibe of the song into images. He did it in record time as well, and we didn’t ask him to change anything when we first saw it, as we thought it was absolutely perfect.“

Recorded at CRIMINAL bassist Danny Biggin’s HVR Studios in Suffolk, UK, with a “no bullshit” approach to recording, the band purposely avoided the vices of modern metal production such as samples, quantizing and amp simulators.

The striking artwork by renowned Romanian artist Costin Chioreanu (At The Gates, Arch Enemy, Mayhem, etc.) perfectly represents the bleak, dystopian atmosphere of the lyrics, which denounce warmongering, misinformation, exploitation and other ills of modern society.

A metal band with a hardcore attitude, CRIMINAL‘s longevity is a testament to their honesty and passion. In it for all the right reasons.

Neues Album “Fear Itself” erscheint nächste Woche!

Die anglo-chilenischen Thrasher CRIMINAL haben ihr neues Album “Fear Itself” für den 11. März über Metal Blade Records angekündigt.

Anton Reisenegger: “Dieser Song war von Anfang an einer unserer Lieblinge. Er besteht aus unterschiedlichen Parts, fließt aber wie Lava. Die Lyrics handeln davon, dass der Mensch den Gipfel der Evolution erreicht hat, und was diese Einbahnstraße für die Umwelt sowie andere Spezies bedeutet. Der Text beruht auf dem Buch ‘Sapiens: Eine kurze Geschichte der Menschheit’ von Yuval Noah Harari, und auch wenn es ungewöhnlich ist, sich mit einem wissenschaftlichen Werk zu befassen: Mir hat es wirklich die Augen geöffnet, und ich kann es nur jedem empfehlen, der sich um die Zukunft unseres Daseins auf diesem Planeten sorgt. Trotz der schwierigen Materie halte ich die Lyrics nicht für zu intellektuell oder überheblich, sondern vielmehr bedrohlich und apocalyptisch.

Costin [Chioreanu, der das Albumcover designte] hat die Worte und die Stimmung des Songs fabelhalft grafisch umgesetzt – zumal in Rekordschnelle, und wir brauchten ihm nicht zu sagen, er solle irgendetwas ändern, denn es war absolut perfekt.“

Die neue Scheibe wurde unter CRIMINAL-Bassist Danny Biggin in den HVR Studios im britischen Suffolk nach dem Prinzip “kein Firlefanz” aufgenommen, wobei die Band die Fallstricke moderner Metal-Produktionen bewusst mied, als da wären Samples, Quantisierung und Amp-Simulationen.

Das bestechende Artwork des renommierten rumänischen Künstlers Costin Chioreanu (At The Gates, Arch Enemy, Mayhem, etc.) verbildlicht die trostlos dystopische Stimmung der Texte perfekt, wobei es um Kriegstreiberei, Falschinformation, Ausbeutung und andere leiden dergegenwärtigen Gesellschaft geht.

CRIMINAL sind eine Metal-Band mit Hardcore-Attitüde und bestätigen mit ihrer Langlebigkeit, wie ehrlich und hingebungsvoll sie sind. Sie machen Musik aus hehren Gründen.
