Journey – Live in Manila

[nyrating]

The homecoming of homeboy, Philippine born vocalist Arnel Pineda, who joined Journey in 2007. Recorded live in Pasay City, Philippines on October 2, 2009 and originally released exclusively in Walmart in North America, it’s finally been made available for the rest of the world on DVD, CD and Bly-Ray.

The line-up in 2009 featured Arnel Pineda on vocals, Jonathan Cain (Keyboards and guitars), Ross Valory (Bass), Deen Castronovo (Drums) and Neal Schon (Guitars). The set could easily be called Journey’s Greatest Hits performed live on stage, spiced up with songs off their latest album “Revelation”, released in 2008.

On this occasion the hero is off course Arnel Pineda, but the rock holding this great AOR band together is Neal Schon! What a great song writer and guitarist he is; a master in creating catchy rock songs that scream arena rock and his leads are technical, tasty and soulful.

We all have our favorites and the hit singles off “Escape” stand above the rest, and the show reaches it’s climax with “Faithfully” and “Don’t Stop Believin’”. All in all a cool live performance, and not as dated as you might think: it was shot in 4K so the quality is good, even for today’s standard.

When I kicked this site off back in 2003, I had no idea that it would turn into what it has become. I am very proud of what we've done and achieved over the years. Musically I have a soft spot for 80s inspired hard rock, but my favourite music and bands are all to be found in the progressive universe these days.
