Dynazty – Titanic Mass

[nyrating]

Dynazty has made some serious strides since the beginning; what started off as a pure hard rock formation has turned into a fast paced melodic power metal engine that is finally starting to fire on all cylinders. They have over the curse of five albums distanced themselves more and more from the hard rock roots towards a harder and more powerful version of metal.

And I think it suits them fine, the growth feels natural and has resulted in a fine new album called “Titanic Mass”. Their new sound has references to bands like Helloween and Masterplan; a high pitched vocalist, powerful riffs, strong catchy choruses, twin leads and cool harmonies.

The album kicks off on a high note and ends on another, in between there a few songs that do not have the same high level. And with another very strong production from Peter Tägtgren, they have certainly done their best to make this, their fifth album, their best and strongest so far.

The album artwork might be a bit cliché and cheesy, the sound isn’t breaking any new ground and they do not stand out in any way compared to the competition, but that doesn’t mean that this is a dull and pointless album. No this is a solid piece of melodic power metal from a band that has taken some time to grow into their sound. Now they have finally arrived, and I think it’s been worth the wait…

When I kicked this site off back in 2003, I had no idea that it would turn into what it has become. I am very proud of what we've done and achieved over the years. Musically I have a soft spot for 80s inspired hard rock, but my favourite music and bands are all to be found in the progressive universe these days.
