Bloodbound – War of Dragons

[nyrating]

Stormborn was one of my favorite power metal releases in 2014 and I was very curious if this War of Dragons would beat that one. After a short intro the first song ‘Battle In The Sky’ opens fast and the powerful voice of Patrik J. Selleby is as good as always. Yet the first song doesn’t hit me straight between the eyes, like ‘Satanic Panic’ did in 2014. The song is good, but not that special that it makes me real excited.

In general the music didn’t change a lot and after listening to the entire album I have to conclude that this is more of the same. Like on the predecessor a nice musical mix of Dream Evil, Edguy, Judas Priest, Sabaton, Powerwolf and Edguy. The tempo in most of the tracks is high and the songs not too long. Fans of Bloodbound get what they expect, well produced power metal with a perfect sound, nice melodies, choirs and bombastic orchestral parts. My personal favorite track is ‘King Of Swords’ because of the aggressive singing style reminding a bit of Judas Priest (think: Painkiller). This is an album every power metal fan will like.

No new elements added on this new album, but Bloodbound refined and polished their style and are ready for the future.

Once a metal head, always a metalhead. My parents thought it would only be a period, but they were wrong. I quit to explain the beauty of metal music to others that are not into metal, because it is something you can't tell in words... It is like explaining to a teetotaller why a cold beer is so nice on a hot day... I started with bands like Accept, Metal Church, Iron Maiden and Metallica in the eighties and I think I will still listen to them when I'm stone deaf and old...
