THE CULT have announced the release of their newest CD “HIDDEN CITY” out February 5th. It is The Cult’s first album in three years and their 10th studio album. “Hidden City” – a brutal and beautiful masterpiece – is the third and final part of their critically acclaimed trilogy that began with 2007’s “Born Into This” and was followed by 2012’s “Choice of Weapon.” “Hidden City” is currently available for pre purchase on all music sites.
The ground-breaking “Hidden City” is produced by Bob Rock and contains Ian Astbury’s trademark baritone and captivating lyrics paired with Billy Duffy’s smoldering textured guitar tones and creates yet another fearless and poignant musical environment for The Cult’s legion of devoted fans.
Nestled perfectly amid the album’s sonic revolution is the first single “Hinterland” – a Hidden City standout that shimmers and roars through your ears and deep into one’s soul forcing an unforgettable experience that leaves the listener energized and wanting more. “Hinterland is a place both real and imagined, a hidden city symbolic of a new Rome. Through the eyes of several witness’s we observe a young woman as she realizes her enlightened self in a dystopian dream world. Hinterland is filled with symbolism reflecting a new aeon in the shift of human consciousness as we realign with our planets natural rhythms,” commented Astbury. The single is scheduled for a January 4th release.

Another song from the new album, the haunting “Deeply Ordered Chaos” was inspired by a quote from painter and visionary Francis Bacon and events that happened in Paris in January of this year. In light of the recent occurrences in Paris (Friday, November 13th), Astbury created a lyric video of the song with Juan Azulay, which premiered on Billboard.com. “I have performed at Le Bataclan on four occasions and was deeply shocked by what occurred on the evening of November 13th. In the video, we chose to depict scenes of wildlife and outer space to create a counterpoint to the wave of violent images we are constantly bombarded with and acknowledge the profoundness of being,” commented Astbury regarding the making of the video. Commented Asbury on the new album: “Hidden City” is a metaphor for our spiritual and intimate interior lives. I find today’s gurus are trying to peddle some cure, product or insight as if it’s a new phenomenon. My place is to respond – not react, to observe, participate and share my thoughts through words and music. There is no higher authority than the heart.”
The Cult ascended the ranks of the music world to achieve global status selling millions of albums and touring around the world. The Cult’s 2014 performance at Coachella was hailed by Rolling Stone as “the Messianic moment of Coachella 2014.”
THE CULT are Ian Astbury (vocals), Billy Duffy (guitars), John Tempesta (drums), Grant Fitzpatrick (bass), Damon Fox (keyboards + rhythm guitar).
