Vomitron – NESessary Evil

[nyrating]

I read that there is a rather big market for used Nintendo NES consoles, which is a bit strange because the graphic quality of the modern games on X-Box or Playstation is so much better. But sometimes simple games are just all a person needs. Lots of metal fans are also into gaming and perphaps this is just a release for you. After ‘No NES for the Wicked’, a full length album featuring metalized classic NES video game soundtracks, Vomitron returns with another Nintendo metal attack.

Instrumentals with recognizable game tunes combined with heavy riffs, spacey sounds on a very high tempo is the formula. Keyboards and Synths  play an important part to create the weird game sounds, but the adding of fast riffs and pounding drums make it rather comfortable to listen to for a metal fan. What other bands do with adding classical parts to their music, does Vomitron with game tunes. Game addicts will immediately recognize the games only looking at the titles. For me, not being a gamer only the Turtles are rather familiar. I must admit that the guitar solos and riffs are very good and the album is well produced. I think you have to be really into gaming so you know the tunes if you can keep listening to the album from start to finish. I miss vocals and after a while I get a bit bored listening to the same tricks every time. Although I must admit that several riffs work rather contagious. Fans of Powerglove, another band that uses game sounds in their music will like this stuff for certain. I find it very difficult to rate this album, some will find it too low, others too high. This sure isn’t an album I will be listening to very often, but because it is not bad at all and executed well I gave the above amount of devils.

For Nintendo NES gamers with a metal heart, this is probably a NESessary must buy, for all other metal fans I would advice listening first and decide if this is your thing.

Once a metal head, always a metalhead. My parents thought it would only be a period, but they were wrong. I quit to explain the beauty of metal music to others that are not into metal, because it is something you can't tell in words... It is like explaining to a teetotaller why a cold beer is so nice on a hot day... I started with bands like Accept, Metal Church, Iron Maiden and Metallica in the eighties and I think I will still listen to them when I'm stone deaf and old...
