Pain of Salvation – In the Passing Light of Day

[nyrating]

Daniel Gildenlöw has never been afraid to share his inner thoughts and emotions with his audience. And “In the Passing Light of Day” is no different! On this new album he opens up and share the feelings on some of the things he went through when he was diagnosed with a life threatening illness: necrotizing fasciitis, which meant a year of pain and suffering, and a time to reflect…

The personal and dark lyrics are very fitting for very melancholic, dark and emotional style of progressive metal Pain of Salvation has created to support the cleansing story. They are taking a step back in time, stylewise, as well as keeping the raw sound from the “Road Salt”-albums; incorporating the best of both worlds.

The album is a step towards albums like “Remedy Lane” and “The Perfect Element, Part I” – it’s harder and heavier than their most recent releases. A move many fans have hoped for, for quite some time, and the result is an album that almost can measure up against the aforementioned albums.

“In the Passing Light of Day” is a statement album from Pain of Salvation and a welcome return to sound and style I enjoy the most from them. What a great way to kick off 2017… hopefully this is just the first of many great progressive releases this year.

Well done!

When I kicked this site off back in 2003, I had no idea that it would turn into what it has become. I am very proud of what we've done and achieved over the years. Musically I have a soft spot for 80s inspired hard rock, but my favourite music and bands are all to be found in the progressive universe these days.
