These are some fine months for old school thrash fans, or should I say for the new wave of thrash fans. After Havok and Warbringer, it is time for Australia’s Harlott’s new album. These guys from down under play thrash the way every thrash fan likes it. Their perfectly executed mix of Exodus, Slayer, and Testament is a feast for your ears.
Vocalist Andrew Hudson sounds like a young fresh Tom Araya, and the riffs of Ryan Butler and Andrew Hudson sound so very tight. Their melodic guitar solos finish it off. A song like ‘No Past’ could easily have been part of an Exodus album, and in ‘Conflict Revelation’ the riffing makes me think of Annihilator. The gang singing parts give the songs an Exodus sound. In ‘Violent Conspirator,’ Hudson overtakes Mr. Araya in singing fast, and like in the opener, there are some references to the mighty Slayer album Reign In Blood. The only negative point about the music is that they mix styles of the big thrash bands without adding something new. But, who does that nowadays? If executed to perfection, and sometimes even better than the latest releases of the original bands, you don’t hear me complaining.
This is thrash at its best, and together with Warbringer and Havok, a must buy!
