Gamma Ray continues to celebrate their 25th anniversary by dishing out two more re-releases: “Genius And Insanity” and “Lust For Live”. First one mentioned is off course their third album and the follow up to their very successful first couple of albums, and listening to it here in 2016 I do think it’s still relevant and shows just why they were so successful and important back then… Times have passed them by and power metal does not have the same importance as it use to. Never-the-less the re-release is fun to listen to, the extra disc offers seven previous unreleased versions of classic Gamma Ray songs and a Judas Priest cover-version. Like it’s the case with all of these re-releases: Eike Freese has remastered the album and has brought the sound as close as possible to the standard today.
“Lust For Live” is where the real gem is to be found – previously only released on VHS and DVD, this is the first time this live album, recorded in 1983 in Hamburg, has been released on CD. And with an updated sound this is something true power metal fans and Gamma Ray fans shouldn’t miss out on…
You can always argue about the purpose of all of these re-releases, but I will leave that up to the buyers…
