Blobfish Killer – Blobfish Killer (promo EP)

Blobfish Killer 2
First of all, I have to comment on the name of this French outfit. Who on earth calls themselves Blobfish Killer?! This is very silly! For those of you who don’t know what a blobfish is, here’s the wikipedia entry on this odd deep sea creature.

Other than that, the Marseille quartet are onto something good. The three tracks of this promo CD are decidedly modern sounding and represent a very refreshing take on what metal music can also be today. Blobfish Killer combine rock’n’roll, metalcore, electro music and a touch of craziness, which at the same time has a light touch and a heavy groove. There’s a couple of instances where I actually think that this sounds a bit like cult serial killer afficionados Macabre (i.e. brutal heaviness).

Three songs, lots of variation and surprises, brutal heaviness. That’s something I like. Whether it would work for a whole album, I’m not sure, but I’m willing to try it out once Blobfish Killer get around to it.

When my old buddy Kenn Jensen asked me if I wanted to contribute to the new site he had created, then called powermetal.dk, I didn't hesitate. My love for metal music was and is great. I wrote my first review during the summer of 2004 (Moonspell's 'Antidote' album). In 2015, I took over the editor-in-chief role.
