With the eagerly and long awaited re-release of ‘Revolution DNA’ (1999), Season of Mist is now completing the reissuing of SEPTICFLESH‘s back catalogue. The acclaimed fifth full-length of the Greek demons was essentially a logical continuation and sharpening of the formula of its well-received predecessor ‘A Fallen Temple’ (1998). Their unique amalgamation of elements taken from death and gothic metal (meaning bands such as MOONSPELL and TIAMAT) with added experimental and progressive touches was taken to a new level.

While dropping the female vocals of previous releases, their captivating duels between Seth’s harsh growls and Sotiris’ emotional clean voice intensified. SEPTICFLESH‘s talent for dark atmospheres and avant-garde experimentation without losing ground contact reached a new height. It had been an adventurous musical journey that led from their savage debut EP ‘Temple of the Lost Race’ (1991) to the daring course taken by ‘Ophidian Wheel’ (1997), and through the widening of the horizon with ‘A Fallen Temple’ to the depths of ‘Revolution DNA’. Coming from the safe harbour of traditional death metal, SEPTICFLESH soon entered more challenging waters by adding classical elements as represented by their first two full-lengths ‘Mystic Places of Dawn’ (1994) and ‘Esoptron’ (1995). Their third album ‘Ophidian Wheel’ witnessed the Greeks experimenting with the possibilities offered by original Gothic Metal as defined by PARADISE LOST’s album ‘Gothic’ (1991) and the use of beautiful female vocals contrasting with harsh growls.

SEPTICFLESH were conceived by Christos and Spiros “Seth” Antoniou in Athens in the year 1990. The brothers were soon joined by guitarist Sotiris Vayenas. The debut EP ‘Temple of the Lost Race’ (1991) laid the foundation of a steadily rising career, which was only interrupted by a hiatus as the band members decided to go separate ways after the release of ‘Sumerian Daemons’ (2003). Continuous demand of their large and loyal following finally lead to a reunion in 2007, after which SEPTICFLESH firmly established themselves as a leading force of symphonic Dark Metal with critically acclaimed masterpieces ‘Communion’ (2008), ‘The Great Mass’ (2011), and ‘Titan’ (2014).

‘Revolution DNA’ comes with new artwork by Adrien Bousson approved by the band, exclusive liner-notes by Olivier “Zoltar” Badin, and bonus tracks, which were not available on the original release. The back catalogue of SEPTICFLESH will soon be completely available from Season of Mist.

When my old buddy Kenn Jensen asked me if I wanted to contribute to the new site he had created, then called powermetal.dk, I didn't hesitate. My love for metal music was and is great. I wrote my first review during the summer of 2004 (Moonspell's 'Antidote' album). In 2015, I took over the editor-in-chief role.
