Launches new track, ‘Barn Burner’, online!

Technical progressive metal band ONI has announced the release of their debut scorcher ‘Ironshore‘, due out January 13th, 2017 via Blacklight Media/Metal Blade Records. After turning heads with their first single ‘Eternal Recurrence’, the band is following up with their equally-superhuman single, ‘Barn Burner’, which you can hear now via metalblade.com/oni. ‘Barn Burner’ is presented in lyric video form, directed by Wovenwar/ex-As I Lay Dying guitarist Nick Hipa.

Bassist Chase Bryant discusses the inspiration behind ‘Barn Burner’: “Our front-man, Jake Oni, and I originally discussed including a ‘get in the pit and die’ track on the album, and ‘Barn Burner’ is that track. Musically, we went for something fast, heavy, and based around dream-like, mysterious tones. The track is inspired by a dream I had about parallel universes – I could see them all lined up like ripples in the water. A girl walked between the ripples and changed her surroundings at will. After having that vivid dream and working on conceptualizing it with Jake, the lyrics for ‘Barn Burner’ just poured themselves onto the page.“

‘Ironshore‘ takes listeners on an absorbing ride that provides ample opportunity for head-banging, singing along and deep introspection. Formed in 2014, the initial vision for ONI was, “to be the band I never got to see“, explains Jake Oni. ‘Ironshore‘ was produced by Josh Wilbur, primarily recognized for his work with top metal artists Lamb Of God and Gojira. Through this connection, ONI was able to reach out to Lamb Of God vocalist Randy Blythe, who contributed his inimitable style to “The Only Cure” – one of ‘Ironshore”s heaviest moments. With their influences rooted in progressive metal, ONI‘s sound can be compared to the genre’s heavy hitters – The Human Abstract, Protest The Hero and Between The Buried And Me – yet they remain truly unique. With Jake Oni handling vocal duties, Martin Andres and Brandon White on guitar, Chase Bryant on bass and Joe Greulich on drums, they are also perhaps the first metal band to feature a Xylosynth player, Johnny D, which adds an intriguing dynamic to the nine tracks found on ‘Ironshore‘.

Die Technical Progressive Metaller ONI haben ‘die Veröffentlichung ihres Debüt-Reißers ‘Ironshore‘ für den 13. January 2017 via Blacklight Media/Metal Blade Records angekündigt. Nachdem sie schon mit ihrer ersten Single ‘Eternal Recurrence’ Aufsehen erregten, legen die Jungs nun mit dem genauso starken ‘Barn Burner’ nach, das ihr auf metalblade.com/oni hören könnt. ‘Barn Burner’ kommt als Lyric-Video von Wovenwar-/ex-As I Lay Dying-Gitarrist Nick Hipa.

Bassist Chase Bryant zur Inspiration hinter ‘Barn Burner’: “Unser Frontmann Jake Oni und ich diskutierten über einen Albumtrack, der zum Moshen im Pit anregen sollte, und genau das ist ‘Barn Burner’ geworden. Musikalisch setzten wir auf Tempo, Heaviness und traumartige, mysteriöse Klänge zugleich. Der Song wurde von einem Traum beflügelt, den ich über Paralleluniversen hatte. Ich sah sie alle aufeinanderfolgend wie Kreiswellen im Wasser. Dazwischen ging eine junge Frau einher und veränderte immerzu ihre Umgebung. Nach diesem lebhaften Traum floss der Text dazu während meiner Arbeit mit Jake am Konzept geradezu aus mir heraus.“

‘Ironshore‘ nimmt den Hörer mit auf einen packende Reise, bei der man den Kopf schütteln, mitsingen und dennoch tief in sich gehen kann. Als Jake Oni die Band 2014 gründete, sollte sie diejenige sein, die er selbst gerne auf einer Bühne erlebt hätte. Die Scheibe wurde von Josh Wilbur produziert, der sich mit Top-Metal-Acts wie Lamb Of God und Gojira einen Namen machte. Diese Verbindung bescherte Jake auch einen Gastauftritt von Randy Blythe, dem Sänger der ersteren, mit seiner unnachahmlichen Stimme im Song “The Only Cure”, einem von ONIs derbsten Momenten. Ihr im Prog Metal wurzelnder Stil lässt sich mit den Genre-Schwergewichten vergleichen: The Human Abstract, Protest The Hero oder Between The Buried And Me, doch sie klingen trotzdem ausgesprochen originell. Abgesehen von Jake Oni am Mikrofon, Martin Andres und Brandon White an den Gitarren, sowie Bassist Chase Bryant und Drummer Joe Greulich zählt die Band vermutlich als erste im Metal-Bereich einen Xylo-Synth-Spieler zu ihren Reihen – Johnny D, der den neun Tracks ihres Debütalbum Ironshore eine spannende Dynamik verleiht.
