There are great guitarists, great vocalists and great songwriters, but Monte Pittman is one of the elite few who can truly lay claim to all three titles. Pittman comments: “‘Be Very Afraid’ is the second single on ‘Inverted Grasp Of Balance’. It’s up-tempo and takes you on a roller coaster of dynamics. I love what my friend, Richard Christy, does on the drums after the guitar solo. I wrote it about when I lived in a house that was haunted. When friends would stay over, they would tell me they saw shadows that they felt like were staring at them. It’s also a take on the housing market crash a few years ago. I put it all together and came up with this song.“

To assert that Pittman has had a storied career is something of an understatement. His resume includes an ongoing and fruitful collaboration with multi-platinum selling artist Madonna, having recorded and toured with her extensively over a period of more than fifteen years. Then there’s his first band, Myra Mains, his stint in the metallic behemoth that is Prong, and collaborations with a broad spectrum of international artists. If his time with Prong did not fully communicate just how much metal flowed through his veins, with 2014’s Flemming Rasmussen-produced The Power Of Three – his first release with Metal Blade Records – he compellingly blended killer riffs, blistering leads and gigantic hooks to deliver an album that was equal parts anthemic grandeur and in-your-face attitude, making metalheads around the world sit up and take note.

Now, for his latest offering, ‘Inverted Grasp Of Balance‘, Pittman teamed up with powerhouse drummer Richard Christy of Charred Walls Of The Damned/Iced Earth/Death fame and virtuoso bassist Billy Sheehan, famous for his work with a plethora of talented artists – including David Lee Roth, Mr. Big and, more recently, Winery Dogs – the skill of all concerned explodes from the speakers. With such passionate professionals and Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Steel Panther) handling production duties, the record came together quickly and smoothly. Pittman bemerkt dazu: “‘Be Very Afraid’ ist die zweite Single von ‘Inverted Grasp Of Balance’, ein schneller Song und eine dynamische Achterbahnfahrt. Ich bin begeistert von der Leistung meines Freundes Richard Christy am Schlagzeug, vor allem dem Part nach meinem Gitarrensolo. Ich schrieb den Song, als ich in einem Haus wohnte, wo es spukte. Als Freunde bei mir übernachteten, hatten sie das Gefühl, irgendwelche Schatten würden sie beobachten. Pittmans Karriere schillernd zu nennen wäre untertrieben. Er blickt auf eine lange und ertragreiche Beziehung zu Multiplatin-Künstlerin Madonna zurück, mit der er seit mehr als 15 Jahren Alben produziert und live spielt. Dann wären da noch seine erste Band Myra Mains, seine Mitgliedschaft bei den legendären Prong und Kollaborationen mit einem breiten Spektrum internationaler Acts. Gemeinsam mit Monsterdrummer Richard Christy von Charred Walls Of The Damned/Iced Earth/Death und Bass-Virtuose Billy Sheehan, der schon mit vielen begabten Künstlern arbeitete, seien es David Lee Roth, Mr. Big und zuletzt Winery Dogs, reibt uns der Gitarrist Talent in hohen Dosen unter die Nase. Mit so hingebungsvollen Profis wie Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Steel Panther) an den Reglern ging die Produktion schnell und glatt über die Bühne. Pittman nahm seine Parts überall unterwegs auf. Das beispiellose Artwork stammt von Sean K Hughes, den Pittman in einer Kneipe namens The Black Rabbit in Melbourne kennenlernte, und der die Scheibe zu einem sprichwörtlichen Gesamtpaket machte – einem Album, das in allen Belangen von Liebe zeugt und hoffentlich möglichst viele Hörer findet. “Während der Arbeiten auf Metal Blade bauen zu können war großartig. Kaum jemand weiß es, doch das Label meldete sich erst spät, als ich mit ‘The Power of Three‘ beschäftigt war, und mich mit Brian Slagel, Mike Faley sowie dem Rest dieser wahnsinnigen Bande austauschen zu können, war ein Geschenk der Götter.
