Def-Con-One prepare to crush heads

Def Con One tour 2015

Def-Con-One was formed in Newcastle (England) over a decade ago by Antton Lant on drums (former drummer for black metal legends Venom 1999-2009) and Johnny Hunter on guitars after playing together in a band called Sanities Edge. They were looking to make the music harder and heavier and went on a search to create a new, more powerful band. Since then the band released 2 full-lengths and one EP.

This month Def-Con-One embark on a series of UK dates, dubbed ‘Crushing Heads’, and will have the band busy until December. The Power of Metal Webzine shot a few quick questions at Antton Lant about this tour.

What are your expectations for the impending tour?

Well basically to play some new places for us and just to play some of our brand of metal music to some metal fans, hopefully get some new fans, more people into what we do, more people helping spread the word about Def-Con-One, its great playing to new faces and seeing them getting into it, its all good.

What are the set-lists going to be like? Will you be emphasising the recent “II” album or will your sets cover the entire Def-Con-One repertoire?

The whole thing is basically we play songs from both albums and the E.P.. It’s really hard picking a set and we’ve only got two albums out, it must be a nightmare for bands like AC/DC or Metallica or whatever, deciding what songs to play. It can vary on the type of gig I guess, how long our set is and weather we wanna just crush heads,

The tour also has a couple of Scotland dates…has Def-Con-One ever played there?

Yeah we’ve played there a few times now. Back in 2013 we played a couple of gigs and they were mental…the Scottish people know how to enjoy themselves. After one gig the venue had a lock in and they got us wrecked haha, great gigs they were. And in 2014 we headlined the Hoards of Belial festival in Dundee. That was a killer event, loads of great bands too.

You played with Biohazard recently….how did that go?

Awesome, its the second time we’ve played with Biohazard and both gigs have been great but this one was packed solid, great atmosphere and a great bunch of guys, real cool gigs.

DEF-CON-ONE is:

Antton – drums

Steve – bass

Johnny – guitars

Davey Meikle – vocals
