Album number three from Australia based alternative progressive rock band Caligula’s Horse, and their first one on a well-known label: InsideOut Music. Their first two albums were self-released (Bandcamp), and helped them make a name for themselves in the progressive rock community.

They have grown over the years since Sam Vallen and Jim Grey started up in 2011, and they paint with fine strokes on this new album using the full pallet of colors delivering a vibrant and energetic album.

I really liked their first albums and this one is a clear step forward again. Much like their fellow countrymen in Dead Letter Circus and Karnivool they do not sound like just another European or American prog rock band. No their sound combining alternative and progressive rock sounds has an unique Aussie twist to it, and sets them apart from many other up- and coming bands.

The organic and warm sounding sound that Jens Bogren has given them fits them perfectly, and with very strong creations like “Dragonfly”, “Rust” and “Daughter of the Mountain” (my personal favourite) I am sure many progressive rock fans will like this album a lot.

The competition is strong, but with an album packed with interesting and strong songs, they do stand a chance of making a splash on the scene. Not exactly a newcomer, but still a rather unknown entity to many, something that I think is about to change…

Caligula’s Horse is about to take off, do join in!
