I love it when the promo letters which accompany CDs include sentences like ‘So and so need no introduction’…and you have no first clue who they are. This is the case for me with German Placenta. They’ve been around since 2000 and have released four albums and one EP. This apparently justifies a greatest hits collection!

I must say the first two tracks indicate that there something extremely good going on in Berlin, because Evolution and Human Abyss are total hammers. Proverbial smacks right in the face. Full on power, blast beats, lots of breaks, piggy vocals and all. Blows your hair back, they do.

Sadly, the exquisite brutality and quality isn’t an ongoing affair. Already with Attention Please: Official Hate, we have a less convincing tune. The trend continues, I’m affraid, and the power and might of those two first songs never comes back, although Trendcutter is a bit of comeback, and I Ain’t No Horse, to. Talk about building expectations and not rewarding them.

Don’t get me wrong; there are many good things scattered all over these songs, and there is agression and extremity in it. What I miss is a consistency in coherence and song writing quality, and that may very well be a subjective take on things, and whether you like something or not is often in the detail. And the secret track is a cover of a song most of you will know, and I’m not going to spoil the surprise, but I think it’s a massacre. Now you know.

For those of you, like me, do need an introduction to Placenta, then I’m sure this is a great opportunity to make a new, extreme acquaintance.

Tracklist: Playing time: 68 minutes

Release date: 10th of September, 2015

Label: Noizgate Records

Website: www.facebook.com/PLACENTAMETAL
