EXTREMA released their new effort, \u201cThe Old School EP\u201d, on May 27 via Punishment 18 Records. The EP features five tracks originally written during the band\u2019s heyday \u2013 primarily unheard as finished recordings until now. The Old School EP embodies the spirit, immediacy and brutality of the years in which its tracks were originally written, accented by fresh, pummelling production. Recorded last year at Fear Studios in Alfonsine (Ravenna, Italy) with The Seed of Foolishness producer Gabry Ravaglia, these tracks do not just prompt the \u201cold school\u201d clich\u00e9 \u2013 they are the real deal \u2013 recorded in classic brutal fashion with only minimal writing tweaks.<\/p>\n

All five tracks were originally written in 1987, shortly after the release of EXTREMA\u2018s We Fuckin \u2018 Care EP. Only one of these songs saw the light on an album \u2013 \u201cLife\u201d was originally released in 1993 on the band\u2019s first full-length album Tension at the Seams. The track has been re-recorded for The Old School EP in addition to tracks the band is known for performing live-only or releasing as raw demos on rare tapes, including \u201cChild Abuse\u201d, the instrumental \u201cM.A.S.S.A.C.R.O\u201d, \u201cTribal Scream\u201d and \u201cCarcasses\u201d. The idea came to guitarist Tommy Massara while tidying EXTREMA\u2018s audio archives. He began listening to a tape on which there were no notes or text records of any kind.<\/p>\n

In addition to those tracks, \u201cThe Old School EP\u201d is featuring two bonus tracks, including live versions of \u201cLife\u201d and Mot\u00f6rhead\u2018s \u201cAce of Spades\u201d, both recorded in Rome, Italy.<\/p>\n
