When you look back at which albums made an instant impression in 1991, many will mention Metallica’s self-titled album and Guns N’ Roses’ “Use Your Illusion I & II”, Savatage’s “Streets” or maybe Fates Warning’s “Parallels”, all albums I would rank very high. When looking at hard rock the GnR releases, a new Tesla album, the second Skid Row album, a Mr. Big album, the second XYZ album and a debut album from an unknown entity called Tyketto made the biggest impressions on me.

“Don’t Come Easy” is in my humble opinion a much overlooked hard rock jewel that sadly got lost in 1991, but has since gained a well-deserved reputation of being one of the best hard rock albums from early 1990’s.

Now we take a big leap forward to 2016 and before mentioned Tyketto is ready with another album: “Reach”, which was recorded at the famous Rockfield Studios in Wales, where bands like Queen and Rush have recorded before.

The addition of new members, only vocalist Danny Vaughn and drummer Michael Clayton Arbeeny remain from the old days, has brought new energy and freshness to songs and to the band. The addition of Chris Green (guitars), Ged Rylands (keyboards) and Chris Childs (bass) has resulted in an expanded sound that still carries all the trademarks of past Tyketto.

Tyketto has in “Reach” created an album that showcases Danny Vaughn’s great voice, which forever will be their most prolific signature. The song writing has a lot in common with their earlier and best albums, with a nice metal edge, and the songs sound fresh and full of energy.

While they will forever be judged against their brilliant debut album, this is perhaps as close as they’ve ever been to recreating the magic from 1991… just listen to the opening trio; this is pure and simple American Hard Rock rooted in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.
