Stream another new cut (“Synthon”) and pre-order at soliumfatalis.bandcamp.com/album/genetically-engineered-to-enslave
SOLIUM FATALIS’ brand of extreme metal began with the self-titled independent release of their 2013 full length debut album featuring production by Fredrik Nordstrom (AT THE GATES, DIMMU BORGIR) and stunning artwork by Seth Siro Anton (EXODUS, PARADISE LOST, SEPTICFLESH).
Not ones to sit idle for long, the band quickly released 2015’s The Undying Season which was a clear evolution of the band’s sound. With production by Christian Donaldson (CRYPTOPSY, THE AGONIST, NEURAXIS) and artwork by French artist Pierre-Alain D.@3mmi, both of whom have gone on to become Solium’s regular artist and engineer for the bands 2016 release Neuronic Saw and now for their fourth album they bring over 10 tracks and 40 minutes of music for 2018.
Genetically Engineered to Enslave features guest vocals by Matt McGachy (CRYPTOPSY) and Haydee Irizarry (CARNIVORA) as well as a guest guitar solo by Phil Tougas (FIRST FRAGMENT, CHTHE’ILIST) and features a concept throughout the record regarding genetic engineering and artificial intelligence.
The band features Jeff DeMarco on Bass and Vocals, Jim Gregory and Ryan Beevers on guitars and Jeff Saltzman on drums, the alchemy of which has created a whirlwind of blackened death metal that has become an unparalleled dynamic force in studio as well as live on their multiple tours.
“Snappy skull-splintering death metal.”
– Toilet ov Hell
“Every note, every scream/growl, every snare hit…everything they write and play has a purpose and not one second is filler or wasted.” (9/10)
– Metal Temple
“If you like Melodic Death Metal with incredibly tight production and musicianship this is most probably perfect for you. It is groovy, tight and heavy as hell!”
– Nattskog

]]>When the news broke that Damian Wilson had once more been fired, and his replacement was no other than Glynn Morgan, who hasn’t been a part of the band for twenty-two years, many were very surprised and wondered how it would affect the sound on their upcoming new album Legends of the Shires. Well, the move hasn’t left a mark, and I am once more sitting with another masterpiece from one of my absolute favorite progressive metal bands.
The song writing dynamic duo of Karl Groom and Richard West take us on another sonic roller coaster ride on this new album. It continues over two discs, from the fantastic opener ‘Small Dark Lines’, a very straight forward in-your-face song, to the album’s epic masterpiece ‘The Man Who Saw Through Time’, which for close to twelve minutes captures the essence of the band’s sound in 2017.
The signature sound is well preserved, even though this sounds more like a classic Threshold album than their more recent releases. Maybe it has to do with the fact that guitarist Pete Morten has left the band.
Legends of the Shires fourteen songs are memorable, addictive, and catchy. No matter where you dig in on this album, you’ll be taken to progressive metal heaven. Each day I think one song is the best, only the next day I find myself humming another. The hooks, the leads, and the playing are of the highest caliber. Legends of the Shires has taken me by storm, and has catapulted straight into #1 on my all-time Threshold chart, and is quite possible the album to beat in the Album of the Year running!
Brilliant!
