Canadian speed metallers APHRODITE have inked a deal with Fighter Records for the release of their debut album “Lust And War”. Set for international release on July 9th, 2019 on CD and 12″ LP, you can now stream the track “Hades in the Night”, the first single to be taken off from the band’s upcoming album.
Stream “Hades in the Night” at this location: https://youtu.be/BnUbBf_VbgA
Formed in the second half of 2018, APHRODITE is the result of a collective effort between the creative minds of ICE WAR’s Jo Steel “Capitalicide” – who wrote the music -, Heidi Stockdale developed the lyrical concept which revolves around Greek Mythology, Yan Turbo from COLORSFADE was brought in to craft and thicken the lead guitars, and after numerous tryouts with different vocalists, Tanza Speed – her trademark voice can be heard in other acts such as DEMONA or OUTLINE – was the one chosen for the demanding task.
“Lust And War” offers a relentless and charismatic approach, as well as a DIY production aimed for all the lovers of the good old speed metal sound from the 80’s, which is sparkled with some heavy and punk influences in the vein of ACID, ZNÖWHITE, AGENT STEEL, S.D.I., VECTOM, etc.

Fans of the speed metal genre already know the band from their 2017 debut album The Guillotine. The first EP track sounds like a mix of early Exodus combined with Agent Steel and twin guitar work in Savage Grace style. With this I think the description of the style is rather accurate. They also changed the Thin Lizzy cover in the typical Vulture style.
Now we just have to wait for June for some more new old school speed metal music.
]]>The End of Chaos has lots of fast and thrashy sounding songs, the production of Jacob Hansen is modern and perfectly balanced. Eric A.K. is one of the best singers in the metal scene and again he shows that song after song. The biggest compliment however goes out to their new drummer, Ken Mary, known from Fifth Angel, TKO, Chastain, Alice Cooper, Impelliterri and House of Lords. The speed and tight drumming style of Ken is outstanding and together with the bass the excellent engine for each song. After the mid tempo opening track the band really opens all registers, ‘Control’ is a modern speed metal monster with some fine thrash riffs and Maiden influences. ‘Recover’ is a mid tempo heavy metal song in typical Flotsam and Jetsam style, a bit modern and with again some Maiden sounding melodies. ‘Prepare For Chaos’ is a riff based heavier song with again more speed. The high speed tracks continue with ‘Unwelcome Surprise’ as one of the highlights. The combination of thrash and power metal, or is that in fact speed metal, sounds fresh and reminds me of their first two albums.
Before you know it ‘The End’ starts and with that an album of almost 50 minutes of melodic speed metal with some fine thrash riffs ends. I push the repeat button and that will certainly not be the last time. Final conclusion is that Flotsam and Jetsam still delivers the goods, and in my opinion even stronger than on their last album. The first fine 2019 release is a fact!
