I am SO looking forward to seeing my childhood hero Slash on stage again! I am a little bit nervous that he is accompanied by Myles Kennedy, though, because I really don’t care for his voice when singing live with Alter Bridge, but I am hoping for the best.
The band enters the Helviti stage and Slash with his well known hat and sunglasses is instantly showing a great energy. I am also really happy to hear that Myles Kennedys’ way of singing live with Slash is way different from what I have heard him do with Alter Bridge. He actually sounds really good.
I am thrilled to see that the years have been good to our dear Slash, and he is still making his signature jumps/runs on stage like he did when he was younger.
It is also really funny to look around me when the band is playing. I have never seen so many airguitar sessions going on at the same time. And I have to admit I do some “playing” myself at times. I just can’t help myself!
I know that many people in the crowd (myself included) came to see this band due to Slash, but it is great to hear and see that he is giving space to the other band members as well and not entirely stealing the show.
I saw Myles Kennedy live with Alter Bridge a couple of years ago, and his performance today at Copenhell is WAY better than back then. It seems like this type of music suits his voice better than with his other band.
I have to come back to the man with the hat and sunglasses, though, and say that the way Slash is playing his instrument is guitargasm de luxe! One could think that the years would have made him slower, calmer and less of a shredder, but he sounds as good as ever! Eventhough I can see he is getting a bit sweaty up on the stage, he doesn’t relax for one minute and gives his all.
This is pure enjoyment for me, and I am smiling from ear to ear. It is great that there is room for some pure rock in between the harder genres at this festival, and the crowd seems to agree.
When the intro of my favorite song from the album Apocalyptic Love, “Anastasia”, begins, I go nuts with my airguitar and totally enjoy the magic shredding of this amazing guitar player.
We have now officially all been SLASHED!

On his debut solo record ‘Year Of The Tiger’ (out now), Myles Kennedy embraces musical elements and influences he hasn’t explored until this point in his career. Kennedy plays banjo, lap steel, bass, and mandolin, in addition to guitar throughout the album. His emotional journey and personal story is captured in a bluesy-americana album with a twist of country and rock, highlighting his unmistakable and soulful voice.Watch the video for the title track single on Kennedy’s YouTube at: https://youtu.be/f3L9_6aJi2Q. Directed by Dan Sturgess, the video follows a reflective Kennedy as he travels through the memory of the loss of his father in 1974 – the year of the tiger.
