ROTTING CHRIST have reached another peak in their long career that now spans over more than three decades. The Greeks have literally stood the test of time. With a steady core line-up and their well-honed live delivery, ROTTING CHRIST are filling concert halls and reap enthusiastic crowd reactions wherever they go. This demonstration of love from their followers is not just driven by nostalgia as the band has managed to evolve and grow, while staying relevant beyond the classics with their highly acclaimed latest albums such as ‘Aealo’ (2010), ‘Κατά τον δαίμονα εαυτού’ (2013), and ‘Rituals’ (2016).Now, with the new offering ‘The Heretics’, ROTTING CHRIST are opening a brand new chapter.
With confidence and skills derived from experience, each song represents its own sonic universe. Guitarist and vocalist Sakis Tolis in collaboration with his brother Themis on drums achieve a perfect balance of amalgamating their classic and unique style of riffing and rhythm with exciting new elements sprinkled in to keep their material exciting and fresh. The experienced is enhanced by Jens Bogren’s equally clear and transparent yet also massive as well as sombre mix and mastering at his widely renowned Fascination Street Studios (AMORPHIS, BORKNAGAR, MOONSPELL, DEVIN TOWNSEND, and many more).
ROTTING CHRIST were founded by Sakis Tolis and his brother Themis in the year 1987. Starting out on a basis of death and grind, the Greeks had already embarked on a darker musical journey by the time their debut full-length ‘Thy Mighty Contract’ (1993) was revealed. On the following seven albums covering a ten-year period from ‘Non Serviam’ (1994) to ‘Sanctus Diavolos’ (2004), ROTTING CHRIST steadily defined their own distinct style by experimenting with elements from death, heavy, and gothic metal without betraying their black roots. At the same time, the band went from underground heroes to headliner status. With the highly acclaimed ninth album, ‘Theogonia’ (2007), the Greek stalwarts added an unmistakable native element to their sound, which has remained with them as a signature trademark ever since. Exploring the mythical legacy of cultures around the globe let to ROTTING CHRIST’s massively successful latest release, ‘Rituals’ (2016).
With more than 30 years, 13 studio albums, a dozen EPs, singles and split releases, as well as more than 1.250 shows under their belt, 2018 marked the year of ‘Their Greatest Spells’ (2018), where they musically revisited their exciting legacy to connect their past with the present. ‘The Heretics’ marks another step in the evolution of the Greek masters. Buckle up for a fascinating musical ride through the woes of religious wars, Zoroastrianism and the eternal war between good and evil. Metal at its best!

]]>US-Tour about to start
It was a special day for every MOONSPELL fan, when the band invited their “aficionados” to Campo Pequeno arena in their hometown Lisboa on February 4th, 2017. Only 4.000 of them could take part in the unique and solemn spell, when the Gothic Metal legends entered the stage. Once again Fernando Ribeiro and his bandmates proved that they are one of the best live acts around.Playing three sets in one day and being as energetic as MOONSPELL was on that day is just impressive. The intimate bond between fans and band never broke in all these hours of ultimate alchemist magic. You can see and feel that in every second of Lisboa Under The Spell. The setlist itself is breathtaking: Starting with their first full length album ever, Wolfheart, from 1995, followed up by the second album, Irreligious, from 1995, they took a long step by jumping to the year 2015 in their last set, presenting Extinct to the frenetic masses in front of the stage.Today the band releases a third new live clip from Lisboa Under The Spell. It’s the title track of the 2015 album “Extinct”.
Fernando Ribeiro on the video:
“Now that the DVD is out, I guess a lot of our fans already made up their minds about it and I guess rather were as surprised about its final epic form as we were surprised by the, no-bullshit, honest and very solid reactions to our new LIVE release, praise, great reviews, chart entries at all. As far as I am concerned LIVE releases don’t make the cut sometimes. That’s why the Lisboa Under the Spell you might or might not have already in your hands was so carefully thought out and packaged, reminding us of the very few LIVE releases that make us sit in the couch and watch or listen the hell out of. Records like Life After Death (Maiden), Earth Inferno (Fields of the Nephilim) and a few others. Those, with all due respect, were the ones who inspired us to do better. The addition of the album Extinct makes perfect sense to us, as this is the musical thread we are going to follow with the next opus and also because that was the last date of our very dear Road To Extinction tour that started off in 2015 and ended in our hometown, Lisbon on February 2017 e.v. We hope you enjoy this new clip from the title song “Extinct,” featuring the lovely and dangerous Portuguese actress Carolina Torres, brandishing the sword and watching her pack rocking out. Before the lights go out.”It was definitely about time, since MOONSPELL aficionados have been thirsting for a new live release ever since Lusitanian Metal (2008)! Thus, Lisboa Under The Spell is not simply a visual testimony to the success of Portugal`s biggest metal band – it is a celebration of the unbound creativity and pure magic that is MOONSPELL.”

The inimitable bond between MOONSPELL and 4.000 of their fans in a sold-out venue is pure electricity, captured for all eternity on the massive Live DVD/Blue Ray/3CD package named Lisboa Under The Spell which will be released on August 17th via Napalm Records. It wasn’t just a usual concert. MOONSPELL played their first two full length studio albums Wolfheart and Irreligious plus their 2015 album Extinct all on one evening. As a plus, they were filmed during the whole day from the early morning until the middle of the night. All this was put together as a Rockumentary on this DVD set. It’s a must have for every MOONSPELL fan!
Today the band releases a second new live clip of their song “Herr Spiegelmann”.
The band on the video:
“Herr Spiegelmann, or Mr. Mirrorman, is a song inspired by the amazing book of Patrick Suskind, The Perfume. I guess everybody knows that book, if not shame on you. I wrote the lyrics to the “execution scene” where people start seeing on the tortured, beaten down man on the stake, everything wonderful they want to see. Like a mirror man, reflecting their fears and ambitions and most secret wishes. I really love this song and the visual part of it was specially designed for this show, with the laser gloves and the mirror jacket, in a tentative to convey the eerie and psychedelic atmosphere of the song. I hope you guys enjoy this advance from Lisboa Under the Spell, as it does reflect the struggle for an original and emotional cut of the songs, just like a Moonspell show should be, add magic.”
It was definitely about time, since MOONSPELL aficionados have been thirsting for a new live release ever since Lusitanian Metal (2008)! Thus, Lisboa Under The Spell is not simply a visual testimony to the success of Portugal`s biggest metal band – it is a celebration of the unbound creativity and pure magic that is MOONSPELL.

The band on the new live clip:
„MOONSPELL’s „Alma Mater“ holds for us the true meaning of this Latin expression. It talks about something bigger which unite us, and it’s not God, Politics or football but an eternal sense of belonging and returning. That’s why „Alma Mater“ is the biggest MOONSPELL song.
