]]>Fans of the speed metal genre already know the band from their 2017 debut album The Guillotine. The first EP track sounds like a mix of early Exodus combined with Agent Steel and twin guitar work in Savage Grace style. With this I think the description of the style is rather accurate. They also changed the Thin Lizzy cover in the typical Vulture style.
Now we just have to wait for June for some more new old school speed metal music.
]]>I had the pleasure to see the band live on their first gig of their tour at March 29th in Iduna Drachten. I was surprised by the perfect English of their enthusiastic singer Mem V. Stein, but found out later at home that he already lives for about 20 years in the U.S. The band already played a few songs from their new album. The title track, ‘Dust Eater’ and ‘Raptor’ are three I still remember. Old school thrash with a perfect production is what Exumer delivers. Mix 60% of Exodus with 20% of Slayer, 10% Kreator and 10% own influence and you know what to expect. With which I don’t want to say that Exumer is just a rip off, no for sure not, because they were already there in the early eighties. Piece by piece the songs are real hammers. Fast riffing, galloping rhytmns and aggressive vocals from start to finish. The slowest track is ‘Dust Eater’, which has the biggest Exodus influence due to the riff and the singing style.
My personal favorite on the album is ‘The Order Of Shadows’. The riff is contagious, the drum rhytmn outragious and Exumer added a weird sound which finishes it for me completely. All in all this is one of the best old school thrash albums of this year and fans of Exumer, Exodus, Slayer and Kreator have a must buy.
]]>TýR did it again, the opening track sets the high standard for the entire album. ‘Gates Of Hel’ has great guitar riddles, the rasping voice of Heri combined with the clean gang singing marks their style. The catchy refrain finishes it. The songs are packed with neoclassical guitar solos and Maiden licks. Two songs sound very etnic and are tracks in their native language. It is traditional folk all the way in ‘Ragnars kvæði’ and ‘Álvur kongur’, these two songs are the softest ones. Other tracks like ‘Garmr’ and ‘Downhill Drunk’ are more uptempo and for the sing a long fans a track like ‘Far From The Worries Of The World’ is grist to the mill. In ‘Empire of the North’ the tempo increases half way to speed metal intensity. The catchy melodies throughout the album see to it that there isn’t a moment you get tired of this style.
Fans of the band know what to expect, a combination of power metal, viking metal and folky elements in a catchy package.

]]>Phoenix-based thrash icons, SACRED REICH, are thrilled to announce the return of former drummer Dave McClain to their ranks, following his departure from Bay Area Metal outfit Machine Head last month after 23 years on the drum throne. Before joining Machine Head, McClain played drums for SACRED REICH for four years between 1991 and 1995.
SACRED REICH‘s frontman and bassist, Phil Rind comments:
‘It is with great pleasure that we announce that Dave McClain is once again a member of SACRED REICH! This was the best case scenario that we could have hoped for. Dave is the best! A great drummer and a great person and we are beyond excited to welcome him back to the band. We’re headed into the studio in February and can’t wait for you all to hear our new record due in the Summer of 2019!’
Dave echoes the sentiment, stating
‘I’m so excited about re-joining my brothers in Sacred Reich. To have the opportunity to make and play music with one of my favorite metal bands was always something I hoped could happen. I can’t wait for everyone to hear the new album that we’re recording in February and to come see us out on the road in 2019-2020.’
As well as new album plans for 2019 through Metal Blade, SACRED REICH are currently planning their live schedule for next year and into 2020. Stay tuned for more news from the Reich soon.

]]>Now back to this new release called The Face Of Fear. I have a bit mixed up feelings listening to the album. At first I only got 9 songs instead of 11 (the 2 re-recorded songs ‘Mind of No Return’ and ‘Docter Evil’) are missing, so with only 35 minutes of music the album is rather short. Second is that the balance on the album is a little gone, in my opinion there are a little too much softer melodic parts. On the other hand the real thrash songs are faster and heavier than ever. The first track is already on You Tube for a month, so everyone knows how that song sounds. The next one starts rather slow, but turns into a real fast thrash hammer soon, this is one of my favorites . ‘New Rage’ starts as a ballad, but soon becomes a mid tempo riffing track.
Melody has always been an Artillery trade mark, this really returns in ‘Sworn Utopia’, a fast song that reminds me of Megadeth. Another great riffing thrash song varied with some slower parts follows. Then a melodic metal song, I wouldn’t call it thrash is up next, but I like it. It is well build up and has some great melodies. Another melodic not particularly a thrash song follows, it has some great vocals, but in my eyes not really what I expect form a band with the name Artillery. ‘Under Water’ is just filling in my opinion, why not another real song on such a short album? The fastest track of the album follows and ends my listening session.
Final conclusion is that Artillery is back with a good album, but not the hammer I expected, I’m sure the 2 re-recorded songs I’m missing make the album better. The songs are good and of a high level in general, but I’m not over the moon.

]]>Hamferð releases live video of ‘Stygd’!
Live shows in Germany and the Benelux next week!
Faroese doomster Hamferð have released a live recorded video of ‘Stygd’, the 2nd track from their new album ‘Támsins likam‘, released on Metal Blade earlier this year. The song is part of the recorded album release show on 17th March 2018 at the old Sjónleikarahúsið theater in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands. Check it out at: youtube.com/watch?v=pLtwVGB7f60‘
Támsins likam‘ was played in its entirety, as well as a selection of older songs, including ‘Ódn’; the band’s very first song, which, although being a live staple, was never released.
Singer Jón Aldará comments:
“This concert was a meticulous production in regards to performance, sound and lighting, and we felt it was the perfect opportunity to record it properly. It’s a great feeling to have a live recording of Hamferð that does not come from an iPhone or from a festival production that we had little to no control over. We took everything in our own hands and went the whole nine yards with a brilliant crew, well-considered stage design and all the high-end equipment we could get our hands on. Luckily, I really think it shows!”
Hamferð will play a selection of shows Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands in October:
02.10.2018 DE – Stuttgart, Club Zentral (w. Egonaut)
03.10.2018 DE – Leipzig, Hellraiser (w. Egonaut)
04.10.2018 DE – Hamburg, Bambi Galore (w. Egonaut)
05.10.2018 DE – Paderborn, Metal Inferno Festival
06.10.2018 BE – Saint Georges, From Dusk til Doom 4
07.10.2018 NL – Tilburg, Little Devil
Additionally, Hamferð will head on a tour of Scandinavia in December, notably playing Sweden for the first time in their 10-year long career. The dates are:
Hamferð+ Svartmálm
05.12.2018 DK – København – Beta 2300
06.12.2018 DK – Odense – Posten
07.12.2018 SE – Göteborg – Sticky Fingers
