Did this awesome tour package fall directly from heaven? After all, the legendary Swiss rockers GOTTHARD already have a connection with their ballad ‘Heaven’ and the Britons MAGNUM also know quite a lot about divine sounds thanks to their 1988 hit album „Wings Of Heaven“. Of course both headliner GOTTHARD and very special guest MAGNUM have also produced plenty more hard rock epics throughout their careers.
While at the beginning of their career GOTTHARD were simply labeled heavy metal, but they broke free from these constraints a long time ago. With their big, memorable melodies combined with their signature heaviness, GOTTHARD established themselves as a true force to be reckoned with that doesn’t need to resort to cheap slogans in order to gain attention. Their music speaks for itself. Forming in 1972 and successfully rocking on a global level, MAGNUM – a band based around the two kindred spirits of guitarists Bob Catley and Tony Clarkin – are also gathering new material

Besides their evergreen records from essential albums like “On A Storyteller’s Night”, “Vigilante”, “Wings of Heaven”, “Chase the Dragon”, “Sacred Blood”, “Divine’ Lies”, and “Lost On The Road To Eternity”, they will also be playing some new songs. MAGNUM also introduce their new bass-player Dennis Ward, who recently became part of the band. Ward previously worked as a producer and musician in bands like PINK CREAM 69 and UNISONIC.

British rock icons Magnum will release a new digital single and lyric video today. The new live song “Lost On The Road To Eternity” is taken from the forthcoming live album “Live At The Symphony Hall”.
Star guest Tobias Sammet (Avantasia, Edguy) was swept along by this enthusiasm and the blazing interaction between the musicians and their Birmingham audience when he went on stage for this song to lend energetic support to vocalist Bob Catley just like he did for the track’s studio recording.

Every music lover knows that the closing concert of a long tour is always a very special event. For weeks in advance the audience has been able to read up on how much the band has been celebrated in their previous concerts evening after evening and they are all the more excited to see their heroes with their own eyes. After having played those numerous concerts, the band is in excellent shape, perfectly attuned to one another and of course they want to outdo themselves with this final show. One of those tour finales took place on 19 April 2018 inside Birmingham`s Symphony Hall. It was there that the British rock band Magnum completed their Road To Eternity tour, which consisted of 42 concerts, and performed at the highest level.
“A truly magical evening”, guitarist Tony Clarkin confirms, “especially seeing as the show was a sort of home game for us, since all of us are from around the area between Birmingham and Wolverhampton, although during the last 20 years we have performed in Birmingham only once. In this respect it was a special moment for Magnum in more than one way.” According to the occasion, band members Tony Clarkin, vocalist Bob Catley, bassist Al Barrow as well as their two newest members keyboarder Rick Benton and drummer Lee Morris confidently played their way through a well-chosen mix of classics and newer songs, which rather successfully join the ranks of the band`s long tradition of atmospheric rock songs.

Oh and just by the way: As a forerunner to this gripping live album ‘Lost On The Road To Eternity‘ will hit the market as a digital single on November 9th, 2018.
All that’s left to ask now is what makes Live At The Symphony Hall any different from former Magnum live recordings. “Bob and I have been in this band for quite a while now, but we’ve never lost our passion for Magnum”, Clarkin elaborates. “We want to keep learning new things and are open to tips and advice. That’s why we constantly revise our old songs, sometimes we play them a bit faster, sometimes a bit slower, we change a solo here and a part of the melody there. That way we not only keep our audience interested but also our own enjoyment in these pieces alive.” There isn’t a more fitting way to describe the magic that happens on Live At The Symphony Hall.

]]>They’ve constantly delivered the goods and their bottom level has always been very high; some of my favorite albums of theirs include the Holy Trinity: ‘On a Storyteller’s Night’, ‘Vigilante’ and ‘Wings of Heaven’, as well as ‘Brand New Morning’ and ‘Into the Valley of the Moonking’, which all leads up to their new album ‘Lost on the Road to Eternity’.
Like so many times before the first thing you notice is the brilliant cover artwork, which has always been an important part of the whole package. Next is the music, which is once more exactly what I’d hoped for; this is pure and honest Magnum. Over the years they haven’t gone far off the path they chose more than 40 years ago, but they’ve managed to stay within the safe confines without repeating themselves at any point.
Even though there has been numerous changes in the line-up over the years and also leading up to this release, the core of Bob Catley and Tony Clarkin has stayed the same and the combination of the two remains their forte. And when it says Magnum on the cover you are surely getting just that! And we, the fans, wouldn’t have it any other way.
This album might be a little more epic than many of their previous albums with three very fine epic songs; “Welcome to the Cosmic Cabaret”, “Lost on the Road to Eternity” and “King of the World”, and there’s a nice special guest appearance by Tobias Sammet, but that’s just about it for them pushing the boundaries on this album.
Magnum helps kick off 2018 in the best way possible…
