Bay Area metal giants MACHINE HEAD, who recently announced the dates for their »Burn My Eyes« 25th anniversary tour, have re-recorded the legendary debut album in its entirety. The recording line-up features original BME alulmni Chris Kontos and Logan Mader as well as singer and guitarist Robb Flynn and bass player Jared MacEachern. The recordings were done at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California.

More play-through’s to follow!

Recently the band sat down and re-visited and discussed the album for the first time in over 2 decades. This often hilarious conversation sees them trying to remember where they wrote the songs on their debut album, discussing how they got together back in 1992, and the time they set off the smoke alarms in the Fantasy recording studio from smoking so much weed.

The tour kicks off in Germany on October 5th in Freiburg, and continue across Europe and the UK, wrapping in Dublin, Ireland on the 8th of November. The U.S. leg will be announced in due course; those dates are set for November into December as the tour makes its way around the globe.

Building on their wildly popular ‘An Evening With…’ format, these not-to-be-missed shows will be a three-hour musical extravaganza, comprised of two parts:

Part I – will feature a battery of MACHINE HEAD’s modern classics, such as ‘Imperium,’ ‘Halo,’ and, ‘The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears,’ featuring frontman/guitarist Robb Flynn and bassist Jared MacEachern performing alongside two, soon-to-be-announced ragers on guitar and drums.

Part II – will feature the Bay Area band’s classic debut album, »Burn My Eyes« played in its entirety for the first time ever. And if somehow this historical event could not be monumental enough, taking the stage for this part of the set will be »Burn My Eyes«-era alumni and MACHINE HEAD’s original drummer Chris Kontos and original guitarist Logan Mader.

Band founder and visionary, Robb Flynn tells us

“Having started rehearsals with Chris and Logan several weeks ago, I’m literally giddy with excitement at the prospect of how much fun this is going to be. Both Logan and Chris are in phenomenal playing shape, the vibe between all four of us has been incredibly positive!”

Flynn continues,

“Having run through deep cuts like ‘Death Church,’ and ‘I’m Your God Now’ for the first time in well over a decade, has reminded me of how fucking heavy our older songs are! This tour is going to be MASSIVE!! The timing couldn’t have been more perfect to share this milestone with the Head Cases! So just a head’s up, DO NOT sleep on this! Tell your friends, spread the word, because tickets are going to disappear!”

Logan Mader adds,

“It’s a huge honor for me to take part in celebrating »Burn My Eyes« 25th birthday! It’s hard to believe this is actually happening. I feel like I won the guitar player lottery…. again! The fact that BME is still relevant today has a lot to do with the fact that Robb has kept the band alive and strong for two and a half decades. I’m very grateful for this!”

Chris Kontos echoes the sentiment, stating,

“This is an absolute mind blower! Playing these songs again after 23 years feels just amazing. The fact that it’s 25 years later and the BME record is still relevant and revered is humbling to say the least. Doing a huge world tour in celebration of the record is a great way to acknowledge the legacy of MACHINE HEAD’s past and future. I’m so looking forward to sharing these songs with the MACHINE HEAD fans around the world. Can’t wait to meet all you ‘Head Cases’ out there! You can be sure it is going to be a crushing night! See ya soon!”

The lord of the low-end, Jared MacEachern is equally looking forward to the run, saying “It’s not everyday that you get to pay tribute to a classic like »Burn My Eyes« and with Logan and Chris in the mix, I’m really excited to bring something special to old and new fans alike.”

SACRED REICH Announces the Return of Dave McClain https://newsite.powerofmetal.dk/?p=47349 https://newsite.powerofmetal.dk/?p=47349#respond Wed, 19 Dec 2018 08:50:19 +0000 https://powerofmetal.dk/?p=47349 [Read »]]]> sacred-reich.jpg

Phoenix-based thrash icons, SACRED REICH, are thrilled to announce the return of former drummer Dave McClain to their ranks, following his departure from Bay Area Metal outfit Machine Head last month after 23 years on the drum throne. Before joining Machine Head, McClain played drums for SACRED REICH for four years between 1991 and 1995.

SACRED REICH‘s frontman and bassist, Phil Rind comments:

‘It is with great pleasure that we announce that Dave McClain is once again a member of SACRED REICH! This was the best case scenario that we could have hoped for. Dave is the best! A great drummer and a great person and we are beyond excited to welcome him back to the band. We’re headed into the studio in February and can’t wait for you all to hear our new record due in the Summer of 2019!’

Dave echoes the sentiment, stating

‘I’m so excited about re-joining my brothers in Sacred Reich. To have the opportunity to make and play music with one of my favorite metal bands was always something I hoped could happen. I can’t wait for everyone to hear the new album that we’re recording in February and to come see us out on the road in 2019-2020.’

As well as new album plans for 2019 through Metal Blade, SACRED REICH are currently planning their live schedule for next year and into 2020. Stay tuned for more news from the Reich soon.

SACRED REICH live:

Machine Head – Catharsis https://newsite.powerofmetal.dk/?p=33772 https://newsite.powerofmetal.dk/?p=33772#comments Tue, 30 Jan 2018 22:21:59 +0000 http://powerofmetal.dk/?post_type=album-review&p=33772 [Read »]]]> All Hail “Machine Head“!

Mix the genres of Nu Metal, Rap, American Heavy Metal and Punk into a musical metal blender and what it produces is Machine Head’sCatharsis“. A musical triumph that most dream to accomplish. This album delivers on every level showcasing the musical evolution that is Machine Head.

Beyond the Pale I found my heroes from freaks and zeros“. Beyond the PaleMachine Head

Machine Head is not afraid to put out an album they want and not necessarily one the label requests. Alas, with “Catharsis” we get the best of both worlds! Tracks are interspersed with ease making this album a significant and measureable success with 74 minutes of musical mastery and execution. Nuclear Blast continues to throw out some amazing albums and this one is at the top!

All Hail “Catharsis

Volatile” is a stripped down but welcome Nu Metal track that opens the album. Next up is “Catharsis“, as a track stands a head above the rest exuding nothing short of lyrical mastery and a measureable change of pace keeping the ears stuck to the SOUL headphones. Creeping slowly with guitar whaling we get to peak “Beyond the Pale” of the band as the lyrical mastery continues. “Beyond the Pale I found my heroes from geeks and zeros” could easily be every Machine Head fanatic’s anthem making “Beyond the Pale” my NUMERO UNO off the album!

The next two tracks, “California Bleeding” as well as “Triple Beam” highlight definitive Oakland roots. Efficiently combining the genres of Rap and Metal is not an easy science, however, Machine Head accomplished this task flawlessly. “Kaleidoscope” leads the Punk way and again illustrates the effective placement and musical range of Robb Flynn and the band!

Bastards, “Behind A Mask“, “Eulogy” and “Heavy Lies The Crown” lead the effective metal diversion and distortion that is Machine Head. Ranging from accoustic guitars and pianos these balladesque songs elevate the album to a place that most boxed in bands could only dream to track.

Straight to the fans and anti-fans. Love or Hate, you will find at least one track on this album you will listen to on reapeat. If you dont. You’re missing OUT!
