Calgary-based hard rock quintet KOBRA AND THE LOTUS have returned with their new studio album, Evolution, which will get a September 20 release via Napalm Records. Following hot on the heels of their first single “Burn”, today the band releases a lyric video for the new track “Get The F*ck Out Of Here”.

Kobra talks about the meaning behind the song: “Get The F*ck Out Of Here!” Time to get stoked, because this track was made for pumping people up and we’re going to keep whipping out the unexpected on this new album. Bad juju… no way. This track is meant to put a fun spin on wiping your life of the predatory relationships that suck your energy dry and to charge you up so you can GTFO! Use it daily.”
Evolution sees the band imbued with a new fire that comes through by way of undeniable hooks, soaring guitar riffs, marching drum beats, and the soulful, bombastic vocal delivery of lead singer Kobra Paige. No longer bound by old formulas and expectations from the past, Evolution comes through with a sound that is expansive and, at times, borders on outright swagger. Each song feels like an Active Rock hit in the making, while still having the grit and feverish intensity that longtime fans have come to admire from KOBRA AND THE LOTUS.
Evolution boasts the band’s most cohesive and confident material to date. For the new record, KOBRA AND THE LOTUS enlisted the services of producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette [Alter Bridge, Linkin Park, Slash, Sevendust].
“The new body of work sets the tone for the music going forward. Sonically, it’s still heavy. It highlights the showmanship and maintains the edge. At the same time, it’s approachable. It pays tribute to our influences, but it takes the next step. So, it’s a reintroduction to us and a rebirth. A firm goal was to build a strong identity and update everything. KOBRA AND THE LOTUS have returned with their new studio album ‘Evolution‘, which will get a September 20th release on Napalm Records.
The upcoming LP sees the band imbued with a new fire that comes through by way of undeniable hooks, soaring guitar riffs, marching drum beats, and the soulful, bombastic vocal delivery of lead singer Kobra Paige. No longer bound by old formulas and expectations from the past, ‘Evolution‘ comes through with a sound that is expansive and, at times, borders on outright swagger. The first single, “Burn!” ignites this chapter. A hummable riff snaps into a visceral verse as the frontwoman directly declares, “I really hate you, yes I do.” The track builds towards an incendiary and infectious chorus, hinging on a seesawing guttural groove and hitting like a sledgehammer.
“It’s about all of the reasons you hold yourself back,” she explains. “You literally need to burn all of those feelings, stories, excuses, and obstacles keeping you from being your own authentic self. It’s super personal. It’s a product of growing and arriving as a person. I’m realizing who I am. It’s symbolic of the rebirth,” says Kobra.

Born out of the emerging metal scene of Calgary, AB, RED CAIN is a modern melodic metal project with European roots. With intricate songwriting, a heavy yet melodic feel reminiscent of progressive acts, and eerie ambient elements, RED CAIN champion a fluid, dynamic, and unique musical style centered around telling dark, conceptual Faustian sagas and constructing those into an unforgettable live experience. Described by frontman Evgeniy Zayarny as wanting to bring back the “Devil’s music” mysticism all too often missing in modern metal acts, RED CAIN delivers flair, groove, and an intricate, lethal edge in their music. Listeners might well pick out elements reminiscent of such luminary acts as Kamelot, Symphony X, Tesseract, Draconian, Marilyn Manson, whipped into a venomous new shape. The current incarnation of the band is all of these influences mixed with a lot of vodka and Eastern European melancholy, shaken and stirred.
Unleashing their self-titled EP in 2016, RED CAIN are returning with a debut full length entitled “Kindred” planned for later release in 2019. Produced by Sascha Laskow (Every Hour Kills, ex-Divinity) with the band at Perfect Filth Studios, RED CAIN are extremely proud and excited to have their friend, Kobra and the Lotus vocalist Kobra Paige featured on their next single “Wing of The Crow”. Her work with Kobra and the Lotus needs no introduction, and when it came time to deliver the mighty yet intricate vocals for the Morrigan, the Celtic goddess of war on this track, she was their unanimous choice for the part. The single takes a deep dive into the wonderful, lethal darkness of Celtic mythology with the tale of The Morrigan, goddess of war, and Cuchulainn, a mighty hero daring to turn from her advances – a tale sung by warriors across many campfires on cold winter nights. ]]>It takes a band like Kobra And The Lotus to make you realise that there are bands and then there are bands. As Kobra Paige and her band enter the stage, it strikes me in a sudden blow of clear-sight how young, unprofessional and perhaps even slightly nervous the previous bands were in comparison. There’s a world of difference in terms of confidence, authority and class.
Not to say that Kobra doesn’t show humility towards the task and the audience in front of her, she does, and at the same time she is practically radiant on stage. A big smile, a rush of curly, blond hair, sipping tea (I’m guessing) from a mug, and then there’s that over-the-top wonderful voice of hers. Although the volume on the vocals could easily be taken up a notch or two, there’s still no doubt that this voice beats them all tonight.
Another wonderful thing is that the band are able to bridge the gap from ballad to full-hammer heavy metal with ease. They’re just as convincing in both the quiet moments (although there aren’t too many of those) and when power is the name of the game.
Kobra shares that the band spent three months in Jacob Hansen’s studio in the rural town of Ribe on the Danish west coast when they recorded the Prevail I and Prevail II albums. That inspired the song called ‘Ribe’. And my goodness, I’m completely blown away by the beauty and the compositional majesty of that song and the following ‘My Immortal’! It’s such a shame that there aren’t more people here tonight to experience this, and I’m grateful that I got to hear and see it. Amazing band, amazing songs.
