After lots of great summer festival performances, DORO is now heading towards another world tour! First rocking Russia and the USA, the band will then be traveling back to Europe for gigs in Germany, the UK, Switzerland, The Netherlands and Luxemburg.
Packed in her luggage is the brand new video for her new hit single ‘Freunde Für´s Leben’ (Friends For Life). With hindsight it shouldn’t have been a surprise that Doro Pesch and her band sold out tonight’s gig (she actually sold out most of her current tour). After all she’s the type of artiste with an appeal that transcends age and gender. On top of that, Doro is promoting “Forever Warriors, Forever United”, an album that has been widely embraced by her fans and press. As its title suggests, it’s very much a paean to Heavy Metal, with catchy refrains that make the songs perfect for live delivery.

No Sleep For Lucy (https://www.facebook.com/nosleepforlucy/)
Warming up the crowd were Swedish Pop Rock band No Sleep For Lucy. Most of the band’s set-list was taken from their album “Until The End”. A few songs into their set I felt what I was hearing reminded me of U2…not necessarily a good thing since I don’t care much about U2. As if reading my thoughts, the band then played ‘Pride (In The Name Of Love)’…a U2 cover.
No Sleep For Lucy put their hearts into their performance but I couldn’t help notice they felt conspicuously out of place in a Metal gig in front of a Metal crowd. At one point the band’s singer introduced a song saying it was a dedication to all the Metal warriors out there. The song was another tame Pop Rock song! Seriously….did he really think the crowd was so naïve?
In another context I might have liked No Sleep For Lucy. But not tonight.

Doro (https://www.doromusic.com/)
Doro’s show was tremendous fun from start to end. I mean whether you dig her brand of Melodic Rock or not, there’s no denying that she is eminently capable of bonding with the audience.
The setlist was quite varied and covered several albums. Except “Machine II Machine” of course. Besides classic numbers, such as ‘I Rule The Ruins’ and ‘All We Are’, I was particularly happy to hear some songs from the Warlock era. I just couldn’t resist the urge to headbang and play air guitar when the band belted out ‘Hellbound’. Of course the most recent album, “Forever Warriors, Forever United”, was also represented via what are probably the album’s most anthemic tracks.
I liked the fact that Doro Pesch introduced each number, saying something about that song. Towards the end of the show the band vacated the stage and left Johnny Dee free reign to put the audience to waste with his drumming skills. He was then re-joined by Doro and the rest of the band for ‘All We Are’ (by ‘band’ I mean guitarists Luca Princiotta and Bas Maas (ex-After Forever) and bassist Nick Douglas).
An encore of ‘East Meets West’ then topped off a memorable show. Tonight Doro not only ruled the ruins but also the Underworld.

]]>Here we go! Today, DORO and her band will kick off their big “Forever United, Forever Warriors” world tour in Bremen. To celebrate the occasion, DORO’s record company Nuclear Blast release the song “Freunde Fürs Leben” (meaning: friends for life) as a digital download.

From the song to the tour – DORO explains how it all came about.
“On our website, we invited the fans to send us their dream set list for the upcoming tour. In this poll, “Freunde Fürs Leben” landed right at the top”.
For DORO, this choice wasn’t a surprise:
“This song was dedicated to the fans right from the start. It was one of my personal favorites during the production of the new album, and I already knew while singing in the studio that the fans would love “Freunde Fürs Leben” – at least I had hoped for it. “
And so the only German song on DORO’s current, hugely successful album “Forever Warriors, Forever United” will not only celebrate its’ live world premiere at the start of the tour on Friday in Bremen, but will also appear – by DORO’s special request – on November 16th and at the same time as a single download via Nuclear Blast.

]]>If you’ve heard anything from Doro’s solo repertoire before, love it or hate it you already know what to expect from this “Forever Warriors”. For me the main appeal of her material is a high level of songwriting skills. No matter how cheesy the lyrics and how far back in the mix the guitars are, its a blast listening to anthemic songs such as ‘All For Metal’ or ‘Blood, Sweat and Rock ‘N’ Roll’.
Despite the aforementioned, there’s been an effort to instil particular traits into these songs. For example ‘If I Can’t Have You – No One Will’ has some Death Metal growls (courtesy of Amon Amarth’s Johan Hegg), ‘Backstage to Heaven’ has a very interesting use of saxophone, ‘Soldier Of Metal’ – the obligatory power ballad – makes use of orchestrations and ‘All For Metal’ has several guests joining in to sing the song’s chorus (these guests include Mille Petrozza, Chuck Billy and Warrel Dane).
The only song that just doesn’t work for me is a cover of Whitesnake’s ‘Don’t Break My Heart Again’. Apart from that, “Forever Warrior” has enough hooks to make it an enjoyable release with a universal appeal.
