After weeks of anticipation from fans, DEVILDRIVER have dropped a second track from the album – their metallicized, aggressive cover of the outlaw classic “Ghost Riders in the Sky”. The track features the talents of album guests John Carter Cash, (son of country music legend Johnny Cash), Ana Cristina Cash, and renowned Lamb of God vocalist Randy Blythe. DEVILDRIVER frontman Dez Fafara says,“It was both an honor and a privilege to work with these three great artists. Watching John Carter Cash and Ana Cristina Cash track vocals at the Cash Cabin was a highlight of my career. Meeting such down-to-earth and incredibly talented people and having them come on board “made” the project for me, personally. Tracking with Randy was another highlight. He’s a brother and watching how he tracked, and vice versa, was a learning process for both of us that we both spoke highly about and enjoyed immensely. Today, DEVILDRIVER is pleased to reveal the fourth video in a series of interview commentary videos supporting the release of Outlaws ‘Til The End: Vol. 1. The fourth segment, entitled “The Lyrics”, features members of DEVILDRIVER and album guests Randy Blythe of Lamb of God, Hank3, Wednesday 13, and Burton C. Bell of Fear Factory, discussing the roots, reality, and rawness of outlaw country lyrics and how their performances brought new life to the content.

Lamb of God vocalist and Outlaws ‘Til The End: Vol. 1 guest Randy Blythe says, “Heartache, alcoholism, not having money, and just feeling disliked and unwanted by the entire rest of the world – those are all very real things. There’s no disputing that… you can see broken men and women everywhere. And that’s what those songs are ultimately about, I think. Broken spirits.”

DEVILDRIVER vocalist Dez Fafara says, “As a lyricist, I look at these outlaw country artists, they’re unbelievable.” Hank3 adds, “For me, writing country music, or outlaw music, is trying to keep it as real as possible.”

The first segment, titled “Intro to Outlaw Country”, features members of DEVILDRIVER as well as album guests Randy Blythe of Lamb of God, Lee Ving of Fear, Hank3, Wednesday 13, Burton C. Bell of Fear Factory and Brock Lindow of 36 Crazyfists discussing their personal introductions to the outlaw country genre and how it has influenced them as musicians.

In the video, Fafara details,

“I got into my parent’s record collection when I was younger, and that’s what got me into music. And they have everything from the Doors, to Steppenwolf, to a lot of outlaw country, and even stuff like Kenny Rogers, laying around the house… but I think my true love [for outlaw country] came from when I started touring with Pantera. Them and on the Black Sabbath tour. I constantly was hearing those guys on the bus jamming outlaw country. If it wasn’t Willie Nelson, it was Johnny Cash and bands like that. I just fell in love with the lyrics as well. The lyrical content is so fucking real…”

Completing this unprecedented project is a host of metal and country luminaries providing unforgettable cameos: horror metal icon Wednesday13 lends his incensed rasp to George Jones’ “If Drinking Don’t Kill Me”, 36 Crazyfists frontman Brock Lindow brings fire and soul to Steve Earle’s, “Copperhead Road”, and Fear Factory’s Burton C. Bell helps to turn Richard Thompson’s anti-war classic, “Dad’s Gonna Kill Me”, into a brooding gothic metal extravaganza. Meanwhile, Lamb of God members Randy Blythe and Mark Morton contribute to an exhilarating decimation of Willie Nelson’s “Whiskey River” before Randy makes a second appearance on DEVILDRIVER’s version of cowboy standard “Ghost Riders In The Sky”; the latter featuring the son of Johnny Cash himself. The album also features the iconic voice of Fear, US punk rock legend Lee Ving, on Johnny Cash’s “The Man Comes Around” and David Allan Coe’s “The Ride”.

“I knew right away that I wanted to have guests on this record, and the first guest I wanted was John Carter Cash,” Fafara recalls. “I didn’t want this thing to exist without John, without Hank3 or without Randy [Blythe]. Basically, there were a certain amount of guests that I definitely wanted on it, but as I kept asking people, everyone kept saying yes! Randy and Mark [Morton] are both from the country and they were immediately on board. With John, we wound up talking for two hours when we first met, all about his love of heavy metal and my love of outlaw country and my love of his dad’s music. All he wanted to do was talk about metal and all I wanted to do was talk about outlaw country. It was the craziest thing.”

Not only just content with a collaboration with John Carter Cash, the album also features the iconic voice of Fear, US punk rock legend Lee Ving. “Lee has a country band called Range War and when he first started in music, his mother gave him her mandolin to play, so he played country music before he ever did punk rock,” Fafara notes. “I’ve been fortunate enough in my career to do songs with Ozzy and some of the greats, but doing a song with Lee Ving? What can I say… he’s my ultimate hero in life. I had a Fear shirt on the first time I ran away from home, you know?”
