Avantasia, Tobias Sammet’s rock opera, tops Legends of Rock 2019
Leyendas del Rock has the immense honor of presenting Avantasia, for the second time in its history. The mega project that Tobias Sammet has been developing in his head for years, reaches its musical and scenographic zenith with the tour of Moonglow. On the stage of Villena we will enjoy the fullness of its spectacular scenery and a two-hour show, during which we can enjoy glorious singers, such as Eric Martin (Mr. Big), Geoff Tate (Queensrÿche), Jorn Lande or Bob Catley (Magnum), among many others.
Avantasia is a bombastic and grandiose spectacle; an ecstasy of fantasy and illusion taken to the maximum exponent. A musical paradise where the imagination has no borders and where the magic transcends the limits known by the human being. What is undoubtedly one of the most important tours of the year in the entire planet, will also stop at Leyendas del Rock.

]]>Corresponding with the wide variety of artists, the album itself is extremely varied and detailed, spanning a wide array of themes and impressions. From the theatrical Meatloaf-influences on the intro track “Ghost In The Moon”, to “The Piper At The Break Of Dawn” combining a classic power metal beat with electronic elements, to the musical playground that is the cover of “Maniac” – nobody can claim that Avantasia is staying inside any comfort zone on this album.
One might get that idea on “The Raven Child” in particular. The song initially features the clean vocals of Sammet, Lande and Kürsch, as they sing over a soft, celtic guitar melody. After an enchantingly folk-y bridge with catchy wordless vocals, the song abruptly transitions into the more classic Avantasia sound, with epic power metal choruses and medieval chanting. Although I would have liked for the initial celtic elements to continue throughout the entire song, the song still impresses with its many facets and is almost bound to become a fan favorite.
All in all, the latest chapter of Sammet’s metal opera can only be said to be a theatrical gemstone. The listener can feel the amount of detail poured into the album, and although not all tracks are equally enthralling, the album is captivating from beginning to end as it pulls the listener into the atmospheric Avantasia universe. Moonglow simply feels like it was written with love!

This new 11-song record sees Sammet, among the most talented and popular names in German hard rock and metal, reunited with some familiar faces from previous AVANTASIA albums. These include original QUEENSRYCHE lead singer Geoff Tate, PRETTY MAIDS frontman Ronnie Atkins, Michael Kiske of HELLOWEEN, Jørn Lande (ex-MASTERPLAN), Eric Martin (MR BIG) and MAGNUM’s Bob Catley. ‘Moonglow’ also introduces new collaborators Hansi Kürsch of BLIND GUARDIAN, KREATOR’s Mille Petrozza and BLACKMORE’S NIGHT frontwoman Candice Night in truly spectacular fashion.
