WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM – support Dimmu Borgir & Amorphis co-headline tour for January and February 2020
The year 2020 is set to start with a roll of thunder! Today, the Norwegian black metal force DIMMU BORGIR and Finnish melodic prog metallers AMORPHIS announce a co-headline tour that no metal fan should miss. In January and February of 2020, the unholy Scandinavian alliance will haunt 10 European cities and bring the American post black metallers WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM along as support.
DIMMU BORGIR commented: “We’re going to crush Europe in January next year, and together with AMORPHIS, we’ll make sure that Nordic darkness will create a perfect winter’s storm. See you all soon!”
AMORPHIS’ Esa Holopainen stated: ” When the idea of doing a co-headline tour with DIMMU BORGIR came up, it sounded great, but at the same time we were really surprised. However, the more we thought about it, the more it sounded like a perfect match. Musically we are different, but deep down, it’s not really by that much. There’s a lot of similar elements where both bands take their inspiration. Both bands are absolutely unique on stage. It is needless to say that this tour is going to be a true killer with a massive production, that will undoubtedly bring even more coldness into people’s hearts in January 2020.
We would also like to welcome WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM to open the evenings.”

DIMMU BORGIR’s monumental 10th studio album, “Eonian” was released right in time for the band’s 25th anniversary last year, about seven years after its predecessor, “Abrahadabra”. Since then, the infernal trio consisting of Shagrath, Silenoz and Galder has played various tours all around the world, including shows at leading metal festivals such as Wacken and Hellfest.
AMORPHIS have also been busy touring last year after the release of their 13th studio album “Queen Of Time”, that further established the band’s reputation as one of today’s leading Finnish metal acts. With their complex and original blend of folk and metal elements, a well-balanced interplay of clear vocals and harsh growls, the band is even said to have invented their own genre.
The first track ‘The Bee’ is a typical Amorphis track with an etnic vibe, where the understandable grunting voice and the beautiful clean singing of Tomi Joutsen go hand in hand. The production and mix is marvelous, Jens Bogren did again an excellent job. Catchy melodies and folky elements combined with brutal grunts follow in ‘Message In The Amber’. There are several guest musicians like for example Albert Kuvezin in ‘The Bee’, sax player Jorgen Munkeby (Shining) on ‘Daughter Of Hate’ and Chrigel Glanzmann on flute in several songs. Also there is a duet with Anneke van Giersbergen in ‘Amongst Stars’, the combination of her angelic voice with Tomi suits very well.
One epic progressive highlight follows the other and in fact every song is worth mentioning, but sometimes words can’t describe the beauty and sensation of music. Yet I want to mention ‘Heart Of the Giant’ in which bluesy guitar parts, a keyboard solo and a choir form the perfect mix. For me this entire album is how heavy progressive melodic and melancholy music should sound like. Amorphis worked this out to perfection and I will eat my shoe if this album will not be in almost every ‘End of the Year’ list. Tomorrow the album will be released and at the end of this week, it will be high in the charts of every self respecting metal country, mark my words!
Perfect music needs a perfect score: 10 devils!

Tomi Joutsen about ‘The Bee’:
“Of course, the lyrical inspiration is a bee, also in a metaphoric way. The tiniest thing can sometimes be the most important thing. A bee can bring life or if we destroy all the bees, life will stop here. It’s a very beautiful animal, that’s why you can find it on the album cover too. The track itself is a kind of progressive and I’m sure that it will surprise some fans in a positive way. We love it!”
