2018 will go down in the history as an important year for KORPIKLAANI. The band celebrated its 15th anniversary, released their 10th album »Kulkija« and finally wrapped up the year with a successful North American tour in December. 2019 will be just as busy. The Finnish Folk Metal Superstars will start the year with an 8-date Finnish tour and will be joined on stage with a brass section from Lahti Sinfonia. With KORPIKLAANI attracting a wide and varied audience, it is especially nice that the tour includes also two all-ages shows at Nosturi in Helsinki and Finlandia Klubi in Lahti. The show in Helsinki will be opened by WALTARI and the Norwegian TROLLFEST, while all Finnish shows will also be supported by PROFANE OMEN who recently released their latest album »Ooka«. After the Finnish tour, KORPIKLAANI will continue their world wide »Kulkija« -tour with a month-long European run with TURISAS and TROLLFEST and in May, the band will once again head down to Australia and New Zealand. Just recently, Pyynikin Craft Brewery unveiled a tasty KORPIKLAANI lager and to celebrate this occasion, the band will release a special tour edition of their new album »Kulkija« (“Wanderer”), which doesn’t only include the regular songs, but also a bonus CD titled »Beer Beer«. This disk, only available in the physical package, includes 14 versions of KORPIKLAANI’s iconic song ‘Beer Beer’, graced by the likes of Christopher Bowes (ALESTORM), Steve “Zetro” Souza (EXODUS), Andreas “Gerre” Geremia (TANKARD), Jesper Anastasiadis (TURISAS), TROLLFEST, HEIDEVOLK and many more of their friends’ bands and musicians. The first taster is released today in the form of a lyric video to ‘Beer Beer’ and you can listen to the track with Christopher Bowes, here: https://youtu.be/pYP-QPPt_p0

Download or stream the single, here: http://nblast.de/KorpiklaaniBeerBeer

The more ethereal band Jonne, led by the KORPIKLAANI lead vocalist Jonne Järvelä, will unveil a single trilogy started by the single ‘Kaiho’ that was released in November and also featured WALTARI vocalist Kärtsy Hatakka. The trilogy will be completed with the releases of ‘Tuhka’ in February and ‘Autere’ in March. Both of these songs will also feature vocalist Riikka Jaakkola, familiar from the series Voice Of Finland. All three songs deal with the emotions of death and longing, and will be available for streaming and through other digital service channels. Pre-order »Kulkija [Tour Edition]« now: http://nblast.de/KorpiklaaniKulkijaTE

Alestorm – No Grave But the Sea https://newsite.powerofmetal.dk/?p=21803 https://newsite.powerofmetal.dk/?p=21803#respond Tue, 30 May 2017 19:53:11 +0000 http://powerofmetal.dk/?post_type=album-review&p=21803 [Read »]]]> When any rocker and metalhead hears the phrase Scottish Metal Pirates, they will know immediately what that means. For those of you who don’t, where have you been these past thirteen years? The band in question is Alestorm and they are sharing the tale of their latest quest which was released May 26, 2017. The record telling this tale is titled No Grave But The Sea. If the information that this album contains songs about Mexico, and the usual lyrical content about stealing booze doesn’t entice the typical Alestorm fan, then who knows what will.

Alestorm started from humble beginnings, playing in their homeland of Eastern Scotland, UK. Over the years, they have become an international party machine. Their albums are conquering the typical metalhead’s collections, they are stealing the show at festivals, they embark upon countless tours on a worldwide scale, and they have pioneered the brand “Pirate Metal.”

No Grave But The Sea starts off very gallantly in the typical Alestorm fashion with the title track. The sweeping melody and the beats that will see glossy hair swishing back and forth at their live shows is enough to lure the listener into hearing what the rest of the tale contains.

One of the beautiful things about this Scottish pirate outfit is that they have developed that trademark sound where you can tell who they are within the first few seconds of a song. No Grave But The Sea has no real change or evolution to their sound, except for harsh vocals on a couple of the tracks. As most of you know, you can hear this on their single ‘Alestorm.’ At first it seemed out of place and odd, but bear in mind, we are talking about Alestorm here. After another couple of listens their infectious sound grows on you very quickly.

There are songs on this record which those with a sense of humor will appreciate very much. Those songs include the second single ‘Mexico,’ ‘Pegleg Potion,’ ‘Bar ünd Imbiss,’ and ‘Fucked With An Anchor.’

‘Mexico’ is that party anthem that will have you shaking your hips and singing along like there is no tomorrow. ‘Pegleg Potion’ has that infectious melody. ‘Bar ünd Imbiss’ will be that drinking anthem at shows and with your friends wherever you happen to be. ‘Fucked With An Anchor’ immediately takes the listener’s attention away from reality with infectious melody and memorable chorus that will have you singing along after the first two plays of the track; so it’s no surprise that it’s becoming a firm favourite amongst fans.

This is no doubt one of the most anticipated releases of 2017 and it will not disappoint at all.

All But One – Square One https://newsite.powerofmetal.dk/?p=19796 https://newsite.powerofmetal.dk/?p=19796#respond Tue, 25 Apr 2017 14:02:34 +0000 http://powerofmetal.dk/?post_type=album-review&p=19796 [Read »]]]> All But One is a band started as a project with members of Alestorm, Heaven Shall Burn, and When Our Time Comes. Looking at the bands you might expect some brutal metalcore with pirate influences. Well there are metalcore parts for sure, but in general the band fuses the worlds of pop and metal music, combining accomplished melody with masterful guitar and fearsome breakdowns. For a lot of metal fans this will pass borders they don’t like. Sometimes the choruses are so poppy that they become honey-sweet. Fortunately, there are some harsh parts as well.

If you want some bands you can compare them with I would say Wovenwar, Asking Alexandria, and Falling in Reverse. However, there is one big difference, you can hear that the band members have a real metal background. Despite the many ‘Justin Bieber’ kind of sing-a-long parts, the guitars, the drums, and the bass have a “metal” sound. The guitar solos sound especially great. There are bands that play pop music with a metal sound (like the ones I already mentioned) and bands that play metal with a pop sound. All But One is an example of the latter. In ‘The Reaper, the Sower,’ the contrast between the metal riffs and the poppy elements could not be bigger.

This is music you can listen to with a girlfriend that isn’t really into metal without her running away to the other end of the world. ‘Serenity’ opens brutal and fast. If this would have been the first song on the album, you would not expect clean poppy singing, but brutal grunting. That underlines again that this is heavy music, but with Justin Bieber – like vocals. I must confess that I like it.
