After long and hard considerations, the editorial team of The Power Of Metal.dk have decided to close the site as per today, the 1st of September, 2019. The post you are reading right now will be the last post from the site.
The reason for the termination of The Power Of Metal.dk, which was founded in 2003 and has been run as an independent, non-commercial and entirely hobby based site since then, is a reprioritisation of sparetime/familiy time for the driving forces behind the site. It is therefore deemed unlikely that we would be able to maintain the high level of output we are used to.
The site, including the Facebook and Instagram accounts, will be online and available for reference for at least 9-10 months. Whether it will be available for a longer time still remains to be decided. Please bear in mind that our email accounts will be closed very soon.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all bands, labels, distros and PR agencies for the collaboration throughout the years. More importantly, a huge thank you to you, the readers, the thousands of metal fans from around the world who have visited our site, commented, shared, etc. The metal movement is, as Pantera put it, stronger than all.
We hope, we believe, we have made at least a small difference in the world of metal.
Stay METAL – cheers
Danish hard rocking outfit NeoStatic are thrilled to announce that their debut album ‘Overpowered’ is now on the way to press. The album will be released on vinyl and via the usual streaming services very soon. You can see the cover right here:
‘Overpowered’ was produced and mixed in Copenhagen, Denmark, by legendary producer Flemming Rasmussen (Metallica, Morbid Angel and many more).
“We recorded with Flemming in the past when we did some demos and a few songs for Spotify in a slightly different constellation,” shares NeoStatic guitarist Jesper Lysgaard, “and we loved the atmosphere in the Sweet Silence studios as well as Flemming’s style. As the opportunity to record a full album arose, there was little doubt in our minds that he’d be our choice.”
Played music forever
Although NeoStatic are a fairly new band, three-fourths of the band have been mates and active musicians since the late 80s. Guitarist Jesper Lysgaard and drummer Hans-Henrik Sørensen have played together since 1989 in different combos, both hard rock/metal and pop rock, and have released a number of demos and official singles.
“Yeah, we’ve played music forever!” laughs Sørensen, “it’s a passion for us, and will probably always be part of what we are. Jamming with the guys and putting music together is just an incredible process. Always has been, always will be.”
The NeoStatic line-up is comleted by Guillem Junca, a young, Spanish bass player who shares the rest of the band’s love for vintage, analogue sounds and a combination of 70s and 90s music, as well as singer and rhythm guitarist Jesper Skou Vinther who has been a friend of Lysgaard and Sørensen since always.
Sponsor behind album
“Overpowered” is not the typical tale of an album release. The recording was sponsored by a local business man and his wife who are ardent vinyl freaks. “I still find it surreal that someone actually offered us money to send out an album,” offers singer Jesper Vinther, “but we are extremely grateful that our sponsors have faith in our music and us as a band.”
NeoStatic draw upon a plethora of inspirational sources when they write their music. From the primordial tones of English hard rock conveyed by Led Zeppelin and the godfathers of metal, Black Sabbath to the alternative scene during the 90s, represented by e.g. Sound Garden, Helmet, Deftones and Faith No More, the four-piece have taken all of these and made their own hard rocking cocktail.
Stay tuned for “Overpowered”!

]]>Barkasth members about new CD:
]]>“Remaining true to our basic anti-religious idea as before, in the new album “Hear My Void”, we decided to delve deeper into the darkness of the human soul, seeking answers to questions that are beyond human understanding. Raising to the absolute of man, as the center of the universe, we discovered the soul and thoughts of a man who has passed the spiritual path, full of amazing discoveries and terrible sufferings that made him eventually cross the threshold between the material the world and the other world. Having gone all this way from the first to the last note, from the first to the last word of the album “Hear My Void”, together with the hero of six stories, you will plunge even deeper into our Barkasth World – a World that every day presents itself with a choice: to believe in yourself, to overcome pain and move on as much as you can, or surrender and give your fate to the mercy of anyone or anything, just to end the suffering. The choice is yours….”
Hi Mia! Thanks for having me!
Wintersun is a unique mix of different flavors of metal, including influences from melodic death metal, black metal, power metal and folk music to movie scores just to mention a few. White all the three albums released so far have been a bit different from each other production-wise and also musically, they are all still share with similar majestic and melancholic melodies, and extreme attention to detail to arrangement and instrumentation. Wintersun is not restricted musically to do any one particular thing and on the future albums we are looking forward to explore again totally new musical territories. We like to call Wintersun EPIC METAL.
Indeed, there’s again a wide variety of influences on The Forest Seasons. Jari, who writes all the Wintersun songs, rarely tries to please others with his music, rather just sticking to making music that sounds good to himself and when his happy with it then sharing it with the rest of the world.
The forest theme of the latest album came about quite spontaneously as Jari was jogging through a forest nearby where his living. Some of the folky influence was kind of obvious fit to the forest theme but interpreting the four different season musically it made sense to build contrast with different musical styles and arrangements to give each season/song it’s own feel.
Early form of Wintersun started as a one-man project by Jari Mäenpää, and some of the musical ideas for the first album were already written around 1995. In 2004 Jari and drummer Kai Hahto recorded the first Wintersun album together and by the end of 2004 Jukka Koskinen had joined on bass and myself on the guitar to form a live band and to help working on the sophomore album (TIME I, released in 2012). All music and lyrics on all Wintersun albums have been written by Jari.
The orchestrations are made on the computer. Jari self-studied a lot of orchestrating while working on the the TIME I and II albums, being influenced mainly by epic movie scores. We are hoping that one day we’ll have a chance to also work with a real symphonic orchestra on some occasion.
Jari is currently working on several new album projects side by side and we are all eagerly waiting what he’s going to come up with. From what we’ve heard the material sounds very promising! We are now starting a longer break from shows and taking time to put together our next release, while also planning to continue our crowdfunding project.
This summer we’ve been playing selected festivals and club shows celebrating the 15th anniversary of the first album’s release and it’s been great getting to play the first album back to back! Every show is somehow special but personally I’d say Summer Breeze festival in Germany and sold-out hometown club show in Helsinki were some of the most memorably ones of this summer so far.
This show will be our last this summer and also the last of our two-year long touring cycle that started in summer 2017. It will be a 15th anniversary celebration as well so we will play the full first album back to back plus some other selected tracks. It will be a very special high-energy show for sure and there will be some surprises as well!
Really looking forward to to playing there for the first time! It’s supposedly going to be quite intimate show with good amount of people and we can’t wait to rock and have great time with the audience!
That’s very much possible…
Like mentioned above, this will be very special show, possible one of the last times we play all the songs of the first album in a while. We’re never holding back during our live performances but as we’ll be entering an undefined break afterwards with no other shows currently in the calendar in a long time, I think this show will have a very special energy and feel to it! We’ll be partying on stage and probably even shedding a few wistful tears after the show is over. Thanks for reading the interview and hope to see you at Gimle!
Our PowerofMetal.dk team wishes WINTERSUN welcome to play their first show ever in Denmark August 30th! You will NOT want to miss this! Our PoM team will be there for sure!
]]>Ahead of the release the band have unveiled the official video for the track Atmosfear, a crushing blend of slow-motion blackend doom and swirling cosmic psychedelia.
Bassist and vocalist Deaf Hank comments on the track and video, “Atmosfear is a song about vastness. The nothingness of man. The lack of humbleness. And how the children of the stars will eventually fade out. The video is scripted, directed and edited by the one and only Joe E. Deliverance, our very own video wizard.”
Astral Death Cult releases on 20th September on vinyl (Lay Bare Recordings), cassette (Mercyful Tapes) and all digital platforms.
This vicious death cult feeds on dark astral energy and compresses it into what they call “döömer” – a unique Northern mix of stoner, doom, sludge, and psychedelic elements with hints of death / black metal. The lyrical themes have evolved from mysticism, misanthropy, and anti-religiousness towards saluting the great forces of nature and the void that surrounds us. DÖ has slowly but steadily grown the global congregation of döömernauts through a series of independent releases and by touring around Finland and the Baltics, receiving praise from both fans and media.

NOLA thrash metal legends EXHORDER laid waste to fans last week with the release of their searing new single ‘Hallowed Sound.’ Today, the band has revealed a video, in which they discuss the new track. The band’s first album in 27 years, »Mourn The Southern Skies,« is due out September 20th from Nuclear Blast Records. EXHORDER will kick off their North American tour next week. Watch the ‘Hallowed Sound’ discussion here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gp02o69vIc8
Guitarist Vinnie LaBella comments, “‘Hallowed Sound’ is one that keeps in the tradition of »The Law« era with some new twists and turns. Mid-tempo/slow, heavy grooves with a mean yet soulful Kyle Thomas singing about our beloved NOLA music history, and future!”

10. Mourn The Southern Skies
The New Orleans natives made their long-awaited return last year with a string of reunion shows and festival appearances, and now are launching a full-on comeback with the impending release of »Mourn The Southern Skies.« Recorded by Duane Simoneaux at OCD Recording and working with producer Jens Bogren (AMON AMARTH, OPETH, SEPULTURA) at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden for mixing and mastering, EXHORDER is armed with more fury and vigor than bands half their age, concocting an intoxicating amalgam of old school thrashers and groovers blended with a modern, mature approach.
From the opening of the first track of ‘Mourn The Southern Skies,’ listeners are reminded immediately just what EXHORDER is exactly through the spitting rage ‘My Time’ forces upon their ears. It is evident that the anger remains prevalent, with perhaps a different point of view that younger men could not possibly have understood on earlier albums. Sasha Horn’s energy and punk influence fire the engines, with Jason VieBrooks locking down the foundation tightly. Vinnie La Bella once again has proven himself “The Godfather” of thrash riffs, which cut through like a high speed drill bit thanks to the stellar production. A lead guitar face-off in the solo not only exhibits Vinnie’s sometimes under-appreciated skills as a shredder, but also showcases newcomer Marzi Montazeri (“The High Priest Of Distortion”). If anyone ever doubted EXHORDER’s skill set regarding guitar soloing, those days are gone forever! And finally, as if riding a runaway garbage truck with fireworks exploding off of its roof top, Kyle Thomas invokes venom and energy with familiar passion. All in all, the truth is apparent – EXHORDER mean business once again!
EXHORDER’s founding guitarist Vinnie La Bella says of their resurgence, “You can plot and scheme for years, even decades (as is in our case). You can work hard, keep grinding, bang the square peg in the round hole until it looks somewhat presentable. But sometimes you just need to let time tell you, it’s time. EXHORDER has its own soul. And it pokes me in the ribs ever so often as if to remind me, ‘Hey asshole, we ain’t done yet!’ Kyle and myself had a dream as teenagers. And as cliche as it may seem, we never woke up from it. EXHORDER has always crept in and out of our lives. So no magic bullet or formula here. It was only a simple matter of time before the right guys, the right songs, the right manager/label would finally come to the party. It’s been damn near 35 years since we first uttered the name, EXHORDER. 27 years since our last record, and a whole lot of breaking up and making up in between. So why is this time different? Why start again at 50 years of age instead of retiring? Simple… because it’s finally TIME!”
EXHORDER’s enduring legacy began in the mid-80’s when they defined the sound of Louisiana thrash and groove metal. Their initial formation was short lived, lasting nearly a decade with two critically acclaimed, classic albums, but their impact on the metal genre can be felt through a generation of bands that followed. EXHORDER dissolved in the mid-90’s but briefling reunited in 2011. Now, the band has returned to reclaim their throne of NOLA metal with their awaited new album and an all-star line-up that includes Kyle Thomas (founding vocalist; TROUBLE, HEAVY AS TEXAS), Vinnie La Bella (founding guitarist), Marzi Montazeri (guitarist; ex-SUPERJOINT RITUAL, ex-PHIL ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS, HEAVY AS TEXAS), Jason VieBrooks (bassist since 2011; HEATHEN, GRIP INC.) and Sasha Horn (drummer; FORBIDDEN).
EXHORDER will support the new record with a North American tour with KATAKLYSM in September (watch a trailer for the tour here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27xQVhNB6Rk) and a few EU/UK shows in October. Dates are below.

This time around, the band went to the Stationhouse in Leeds (UK) to record Angel of Light with producer James Atkinson (Gentleman’s Pistols/Voorhees). The result is a revelation; Angel Witch is reborn and more powerful than ever, retaining every iota of the melodious finesse and metaphysical intrigue that elevated them above their contemporaries from day one.
Angel Witch comments: “It’s hard to believe it’s been almost a decade since we recorded our last album and it is so exciting for us, personally, to have another record fully finished and in the bag which reflects the passion and chemistry of the line-up we have enjoyed over the last two and a half years.”

San Diego quintet AS I LAY DYING rise together on their seventh full-length and debut for Nuclear Blast, the aptly titled »Shaped By Fire« will be released on September 20th. Today, the band releases the third album trailer where they discuss the process of writing ‘My Own Grave’ and the concept behind the music video that was directed by Josh Knoff, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jpd6OdRa7Ow
Guitarist Phil Sgrosso comments, “‘My Own Grave’ feels like a really special song for us considering we hadn’t put out any material in seven years. We knew that we had to put out something that could stand alone because it actually was standing alone, being just a single as opposed to a whole album that was backing it up. There’s a pretty conscious effort amongst all of us to include kind of all the elements that define our sound with every instrument.”
In about a week, AS I LAY DYING will kick off the their »Shaped By Fire« world tour. The trek will include 2 dates in Russia before heading across Europe with CHELSEA GRIN, UNEARTH and FIT FOR A KING. Tickets are now on sale at http://asilaydying.com/tour.

]]>American death metallers VISCERAL DISGORGE have teamed up with Slam Worldwide to premiere the third and last single “F***** Into Oblivion” from their upcoming album “Slithering Evisceration”, which will be released on September 13th via Agonia Records. Listen to the new single here:
VISCERAL DISGORGE – F***** Into Oblivion (Official Track Stream)
The new album “Slithering Evisceration” will be released right in time for Bloodletting North America Tour XIII, on which the band will perform alongside Disentomb and Signs Of The Swarm.
Travis from VISCERAL DISGORGE commented on the new release: “We had a lot of bumps in the road over the years that we had to overcome, but I think that essentially it made the band stronger and more ferocious over time. This album is much faster and more aggressive than our last album with lyrical themes inspired more by Science fiction and Cosmic horror as opposed to the old hack and slash. V.D. is back…the beast has awaken from its ancient slumber ready to obliterate all who stand in its way!”. On the upcoming tour, they added: “We’re excited to hit the road again this time with our mates in Disentomb and Signs of the Swarm as well as the recent up and coming: Continuum, Organectomy and Mental Cruelty for the SICK support. Make sure to catch V.D. This September on our album release tour”.
Emerging from Baltimore, MD, VISCERAL DISGORGE began playing their unique style of brutal death metal; captivating the enthusiasts of brutality everywhere. Shortly following the release of “Ingesting Putridity”, their debut album from 2011, VISCERAL DISGORGE started gaining momentum, and quickly developed a loyal national and international following. The album received critical acclaim from several sources, including Decibel Magazine, and is now considered by many as a death metal classic. The demand for the band facilitated metal festival appearances throughout the United States and abroad (inc. Maryland Deathfest, Netherlands Deathfest, Frankfurt Deathfest, Las Vegas Deathfest, Puerto Rico Metal Demolition Fest, Chicago Domination Fest, New York Deathfest or Hammersonic to name a few) sharing the stage and holding their own among some of the industries top heavyweights. Despite having put out only one album, the band embarked on several major tours, inc. a tour with Disentomb throughout the EU and UK (2016), a tour across Canada with Psycroptic and Archspire (2017), a slot on the Devastation on the Nation Tour (2017, feat. Cryptopsy, Decrepit Birth and Rivers of Nihil) and a slot on Bloodletting North America XI Tour (2017, feat. Origin, Archspire and Defeated Sanity). Last year – which marked the band’s worldwide signing to Agonia Records – they embarked on Frank Mullen’s final tour with Suffocation, Cattle Decapitation and Krisiun, and invested their time into recording their sophomore album.
“Slithering Evisceration” was recorded, mixed and mastered by Drew Lamond at Wright Way Studios (Dying Fetus, Misery Index). The album artwork was created by Stephen Somers.
