Notice: Function _load_textdomain_just_in_time was called incorrectly. Translation loading for the Walking into the Pub Station for the first time in over a decade was a risk I was willing to take, especially knowing that I was about to hang with the boys from Buckcherry, but I was not prepared for Joyous Wolf….at all! To say the charisma of Nick Reese, lead singer for Joyous Wolf is instantaneously gravitational towards a higher plane is an understatement. Mix Captain Charisma, Nick Reese with the slaughterhouse axing of Blake Allard on guitar, sludge tones of Greg Braccio’s base and the tub thumping beats of Robert Sodaro’s cloned John Bonham drum set and you get JOYOUS F’N WOLF in the 406! Hailing from Southern California, vocalist Nick Reese, guitarist Blake Allard, bassist Greg Braccio, and drummer Robert Sodaro are beginning to rise faster than most and have just announced a supporting roll with Foghat and DEEP PURPLE!!! Not to mention a solid rise on Sirius XM’s rotations and being featured on @IAMJerhicho’s hour show on SXMOctane! Just heard @JoyousWolfMusic on @IAmJericho via @SXMOctane!!! I love my LIFE! Thank you @powerofmetaldk! See you dudes soon!!! Come back to #MyMontana #TIWMafia pic.twitter.com/jrG3JU1x9V — Josh Richards (@406Yeti) June 28, 2019 With an amazing visual show, killer tunes that caught my ears quickly in of course this guy did what he always does: The recorded music, body of work, LIVE show and meeting Nick, (Mr. out on his phone), Greg and Robert was a true pleasure. Taking time out of their busy schedule to listen to the cause of Mental Health Awareness and Suicide in the state of Montana was huge. Joyous Wolf is breaking out in 2019 and they are breaking out hard. Below you can see just a few pics of the amazing night compliments of Brendan Dekievet of Montana Music Media as well as my night witnessing Joyous Wolf, not just for the first time EVER, but for the first time EVER LIVE!!! If you are the type of person who arrives and are expecting a typical, “warm up band”, you’re ears are going to sing with JOY as JOYOUS WOLF is not in that category. NOT EVEN CLOSE! As I stepped into the Pub Station for the first time in almost ten years the sounds, the smells and the electrifying atmosphere was palpable as Blake was wailing on the axe, Nick was contorting on the stage, Greg was grooving with the crowd while Robert smiled from ear to ear beating the shit out of the kit! It was game time!!! Missing the first two songs of the set in “Undesired” and “Place in Time” was a well played delay by the universe, but walking into a LIVE rendition of, “Holy Diver“, not to be confused by Dio’s “Holy Driver” was an instant ‘hook’ for me! You know that feeling right? When you hear that lick, or that voice or that tone or that beat that clicks in your soul. That is Joyous Wolf, and when they set that hook, they reeled me in with my favorite song off their PLACE IN TIME album in “Had Enough“. Sitting at the #1 spot on the album, Joyous Wolf takes no time in busting into your ears with the necessary drops, splits and silences in the first fifteen seconds of “Had Enough” that you just cant stop listening. These young men are on an amazing ride and look forward to a POWER OF METAL Exclusive Interview in the coming weeks with front man Nick Reese as we talk everything on the WARPAINT TOUR and how that experience has prepared him and the rest of the band. ]]>Ready to make your ears bleed with the kind of “metal ear candy” that commands your senses scream in loathing love of death and malice? Monster riffs, unrelenting grooviness and the atmosphere of oppression lingers throughout the entire album. Memrioam “Requiem for Mankind” takes OLD School to a team effort that is well worth more than the casual spin!
“Well, here we are with our third album, ‘Requiem For Mankind’. On our previous albums, we have experimented with different musical and vocal styles which have finally got us to the here and now with what we think is the definitive MEMORIAM album. It’s death metal. It’s all we know. It feels like the previous albums were a buildup to this one. We finally have all the right ingredients in one place. We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it. Onwards!”. Memoriam
Memoriam was assembled from the ashes following the unforseen and tragic death of Martin “Kiddie” Kearns, the drummer from Bolt Thrower. Bolt Thrower, much like any metal band was a family, thus taking a break was inevitable. Fast forward to Karl Willetts seizing the opporunity in front of him provided an outlet for himself and his friends. What we as fans received was a death metal band focused on healing through music with themes focused on death, loss and the gruesomeness of war.
Russ Russell puts some signature death sugar on this album with each and every song echoing from the depths of the Parlour Studios with visceral angst! “Shell Shock” is as stripped down and nasty as it gets opening the album with a nice and easy slow metal burn leading the listener through the rest of the album. Its a slow and steady build of carnage and chaos through the entire album. “The Veteran“, as a track, stands a head above the rest and stays on repeat through my earbuds as it lays waste to the other tracks in mastery, however, it can be a hard tossup as the ninth track on the album, “Fixed Bayonets” keeps the lyrical and musical bleeding in my ears at a steady form of fist pumping.
I highly recommend you stop reading this shit and buy the album or check out these hard pricks ON TOUR NOW!!!!!
Get their swag NOW!

Power of Metal’s raVen sat down with Ministry’s Sin Quirin to disuss the upcoming “Amerikkkant” Tour making a stop at the Wilma Theater in Missoula, Montana on April 3rd, 2018. The team at Logjam Presents continues to fill Missoula with amazing music, talent and musicians so it should be no surprise that Ministry is coming to town!
April 03 – Wilma Theatre, Missoula, MT
The tour’s guest lineup will feature vocalist Burton C. Bell (FEAR FACTORY), drummer Joey Jordison (SLIPKNOT) and live scratcher DJ Swamp (BECK, THE CRYSTAL METHOD), who will join longtime bandmembers Sin Quirin and Cesar Soto on guitars, Tony Campos (FEAR FACTORY, STATIC-X, ASESINO, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY) on bass, and keyboardist John Bechdel (KILLING JOKE, FEAR FACTORY).
For Sin’s take on the touring lineup, setlist and relearning riffs listen below.
Sin and raVen spoke candidly about playing the Amerikkkant album live as well as the lineup that will be on tour with Ministry.
“Its going to be a challenge. I’m not going to lie. We start rehearsal in about two weeks. Ya, its going to be a challenge. Much more so than tours I think just because obviously you’ve hear everything that is going on in this albu. Its a lot of stuff that we have never done before so the rehearsals I think are going to be pretty intense.“ – Sin Quirin – Ministry
Sin was warned in advance that when the Western Montana Metal crowd amasses there is nothing more powerful and mesmorizing in the western half of the United States. The energy that flows through the band and the fans at a metal concert in the Wilma or even the Kettlehouse Ampitheater for that matter is polarizing.
“Dude, I am so ready to feel that energy. Its been a while since I have been in Montana but we are ready and we are excited!“ Sin Quirin – Ministry
Much thanks to Sin, Julie and Heidi from Nuclear Blast for the amazing opportunity. Its our turn now Montana. Lets show Chelsea Wolfe and the Ministry gang what a Metal Crowd in the famous Wilma Theater can do!

The politically-charged new album AmeriKKKant was written and produced by the band’s provocateur-in-chief Al Jourgensen…nine tracks linked as one continuous piece of music….topics rooted in Jourgensen’s unadulterated rage for what’s happening in America today…waning respect for the U.S. Constitution… growing acceptance of one’s opinions replacing facts…the sexual abuse and disrespect of women…and the toxicity generated by the man in the White House. Please check out the first single, “Antifa,” HERE
Philip H. Anselmo and the Illegals realease one of the heaviest albums of 2018 to date in Choosing Mental Illness as a Virtue. The unmistakable voice of Phil H. Anselmo innerwoven with the rage, mania and frantic style of the Illegals make this a must have for any fan of thrash.
Choosing Mental Illness as a Virtue is described brilliantly by the Klingon leader, Khan from Star Trek 2 – The Wrath of Khan. Prior to the Klingon leader placing a larva into Checkhov’s ear and before the larva ruthlessly and aggressivley buries itself through the ear canal Khan makes this statment,“Their young enters through the ears and wrap themselves around the cerebral cortex. This has the effect of leaving the victim exremely suceptible to, suggestion.“ That is exaclty what you will get with this album. A nasty, ugly, visceral lyrical and musical compliation that will scratch and scrape through your inner ear canal finally becoming indelibly one with your cerebral cortex!.
“A nasty, ugly, visceral lyrical and musical compliation that will scratch and scrape through your inner ear canal finally becoming indelibly one with your cerebral cortex!” /raVen/
From the first track, “Little Fucking Heroes” through the end of “Mixed Lunatic Results“, there will be no rest for the weary. Possibly the heaviest and most pronounced thrash album I have had the opportunity to listen to in years. The change of pace and segmatic riffs throughout each and every track on this album are literal ear candy.
The lineup of the THE ILLEGALS has of course changed since album one. Philip had this to say about his new crew:
“Their creative input is fucking fantastic. This is something that was very different from the first record where I was very staunch. I wanted it to be ugly. I was very firm that I was writing every fucking note. The thought was, ‘This is my contribution to ugly music right this second in a heavy metal vein.’ That was great at the time. ‘Walk Through Exits Only’ made its own little statement that I am a free agent and I belong to no single band. This time, I worked closely with everyone. We tried different ideas together. It made the spirit of this thing come alive even more because of the enthusiasm these guys bring. It enhanced the integrity of the project.“ Phil Anselmo – On the Illegals current lineup.
Behind one of the most polarizing and enigmatic metal megatrons in Philip H. Anselmo we get “the Illegals“. An amazing and eclectic group of artists. Within the new lineup we see a solidification of their true ranking in Thrash Metal greats, but again, with Philip how can you not! In Choosing Mental Illness as a Virtue with Mike Deleon from Disfigured and Flesh Hoarder and Walter Howard the long time Texan bassist we get a Thrash Metal album that will be a “Blue”print for years to come.
With this second full length album the influences of Death Metal, Slash Metal and Sludge Metal are abundant. Through the riffs Mike and Stephen lay down in “Little Fucking Heroes“, “The Ignorant Point” and “Photographic Taunts” we get a smooth and aggressive pace.
The bass work by Walter Howard is powerful and only amplifies the angst. Behind all of the riffs we get the blasts upon blasts by Blue Gonzalez. Each blast with preceision and purpose carry each song to destination no matter the length.
The lyrical mastery will require you to possibly pull out your thesaurus and begin Googling the vocabulary. What should we expect from one of the most influential metal visigoths since the 90’s began? Nothing but pissing excellence just like Phil Anselmo, a man possessed. A man possessed by metal and we as metal fans get to reap that possession daily!

Mix the genres of Nu Metal, Rap, American Heavy Metal and Punk into a musical metal blender and what it produces is Machine Head’s “Catharsis“. A musical triumph that most dream to accomplish. This album delivers on every level showcasing the musical evolution that is Machine Head.
“Beyond the Pale I found my heroes from freaks and zeros“. Beyond the Pale – Machine Head
Machine Head is not afraid to put out an album they want and not necessarily one the label requests. Alas, with “Catharsis” we get the best of both worlds! Tracks are interspersed with ease making this album a significant and measureable success with 74 minutes of musical mastery and execution. Nuclear Blast continues to throw out some amazing albums and this one is at the top!
“Volatile” is a stripped down but welcome Nu Metal track that opens the album. Next up is “Catharsis“, as a track stands a head above the rest exuding nothing short of lyrical mastery and a measureable change of pace keeping the ears stuck to the SOUL headphones. Creeping slowly with guitar whaling we get to peak “Beyond the Pale” of the band as the lyrical mastery continues. “Beyond the Pale I found my heroes from geeks and zeros” could easily be every Machine Head fanatic’s anthem making “Beyond the Pale” my NUMERO UNO off the album!
The next two tracks, “California Bleeding” as well as “Triple Beam” highlight definitive Oakland roots. Efficiently combining the genres of Rap and Metal is not an easy science, however, Machine Head accomplished this task flawlessly. “Kaleidoscope” leads the Punk way and again illustrates the effective placement and musical range of Robb Flynn and the band!
“Bastards“, “Behind A Mask“, “Eulogy” and “Heavy Lies The Crown” lead the effective metal diversion and distortion that is Machine Head. Ranging from accoustic guitars and pianos these balladesque songs elevate the album to a place that most boxed in bands could only dream to track.
Straight to the fans and anti-fans. Love or Hate, you will find at least one track on this album you will listen to on reapeat. If you dont. You’re missing OUT!
]]>“The Swedish quartet has done something that most can only dream of! Continue to make some kick ass tunes and not over complicate how to Rock and Roll!“ /raVen/
A Rhythm section that lights a darkened highway, guitars that descend like lightnings from a stormy sky, a voice polished by sand paper. If AC/DC was an old family recipe, this young band from Switzerland is what you would be eating at Grandma’s house.
After opening for Scorpions, Gotthard and Johnny Hallyday in 2015, the band released its second album “Hit The Gas“ which is a big return to the best 80’s moments with basic riffs and furious solos. Distributed worldwide, this last album offered the band a great promotional tour with more than 50 shows all over Europe with a big tour with the american band, Nashville Pussy. After that, the band played shows with bands like Patrick Bruel (famous french singer), Gotthard, and toured in Spain with the Swedish band Bonafide.
The album is a nonstop thrill ride for the fans and music lovers thirsting for that Dirty Blues sound mixed eloquently as refined Rock and Roll! Mat, Allan, Dann and Lucas are not a knock off to be disregarded. There are some stellar bridges and writing that make this an easy album to listen to through from beginning to end. Gritty, refined and nasty from the ground up.
The hardwork that Producer, Dennis Ward, and Worry Blast put in exudes from this ablum with nonstop infiltration and assault from beginning to end. A big step up in the game from their previous releases in, “Break Out From Hell (2013)”, and “Hit the Gas (2016)”. Both albums respectively carry their own worth, but, pale in comparison to “.44 (2018).
Go Buy the Album!!
]]>Last month I had the opportunity to sit down with the Drummer and a co-founding member of Corrosion of Conformity, Reed Mullin, for an in depth interview about the past, the present and the future. What unfolds is a charasmatic and enigmatic interview.
Reed is a kind, energetic and matured “Metal Goliath” seasoned in beats and touring for over three decades. As you listen I hope you hear the same passion for the music, his bandmates, and his life as I did. We here at Power of Metal are proud to call Reed our dear friend and cant wait to support him and C.o.C. during their LIVE TOUR!
Get out their and get Corroded! Until then, sit back and listen to some fantasmic and comical soundbites from our interview and stories he shared with us. The full interview is available at the bottom of the article.
We began the interview with my regular “Metal or Myth” segment in which I engaged Reed with five questions.
- Corrosion of Conformity are the Godfathers of Hardcore Punk Rock in North Carolina? METAL
- Katherine Ludwig has been the catalyst for Corrosion of Conformity’s succes? METAL
- Your Mom and Dad Purchased the band’s first touring van? METAL
- Corrosion of Conformity has found a Solid Home with Nuclear Blast Records? METAL
- “Albatross” is the Number One Single played in Strip Clubs Worldwide? MYTH
You will hear Reed’s take on Katherine Ludwig as well as stories involving C.o.C.’s first touring van, a Ford Econoline. Plus we get Reed’s take on Nuclear Blast and how their role with Corrosion of Conformity has allowed them once again to reach Metal INFAMY!
Reed tells an amazing story and recounts how Slayer was instrumental in Corrosion of Conformity’s deal w/ Metal Blade Records. Specifically recounting a LIVE Performance in “1983 or 1984 with Obsessed and Slayer,” where he describes the LIVE crowd as “popcorn in a popcorn popper at the movie theater with people stage diving all over the place“.
In this segment Reed, having had the opportunity to play Dueling Kits with anyone from any era at any point who would it be? Without hesitation Reed responded, “Without question Matt Cameron.“. Reed talks about the late Chris Cornell and his ability to play Hunted Down in Birmingham, England while on tour with Soundgarden.
In the second portion of “If you Could” we listen to Reed tell an amazing story touring with Metallica. In Copenhagen, DENMARK James and the boys allow Reed to sit on the kit for Last Caress but unfortunately not for Master of Puppets!
“Lucky as fuck to be able to play with my brothers for thrity some years and enjoy every minute of it.“ Reed Mullin, Corrosion of Conformity
No need to pub this. Just listen!!

]]>Twelve years. Twelve long years to be able to slap on the SOUL headphones, blaze some of the greatest Purple Kush in the land from the Montana Marijuana Company and let my mind drift back enigmatically to 1999 where times were simpler, the music was raw, grunge was fading and a band known as Corrsion of Conformity left its indelible mark upon my ears forever.
With their first album release in over twelve years Corrosion of Conformity continues to push themselves. With the assistance of Nuclear Blast® we as fans reap what was promised by Drummer, Reed Mullin himself, “Talking to Monte Conner, that we have known for beers and beers beers,“ he says laughingly and continues, “I promised him we would give him a killer fucking album and I think we did,“ “No Cross No Crown” does more than kills. It SLAYS!
The long wait is over. “I called Pepper up and casually mentioned that maybe we should play a couple of shows,“ Reed recalls, “Pepper said, ‘Let’s go to Europe and see if it works. ‘ So we loaded up our shit four times in one year!“ The result is an album that takes us back to the roots of C.o.C.. Alongside longtime Producer John Custer they were able to take each song on its own and track them completely individually. The brief interludes and amazing southern influences give the listener a chance to catch their breath before its right back to Corroding!
The first song the crew laid down was Wolf Named Crow, a straight up visceral ode to Pepper’s crazy looking black dog with blue eyes named CROW.
“I had a crazy-looking black dog with blue eyes named Crow,”Keenan explains. “I was walking him through the hood where I live in New Orleans and this young kid was tripping on my dog, going, ‘Damn! Is that a wolf?’ I said yeah. Then he goes, ‘What’s his name?’ And I said, ‘Crow.’ And he goes, ‘Damn! He got a wolf named Crow!’ Then he ran off telling his buddies and shit. And I was like, ding! So I took that idea and manipulated it into a song about being hunted.”
Knowing full well that expectations would be colossal and the album would be analyzed, scrutinized and picked through with Pepper Keenan back out in front.
“That was in the back of my mind the whole time,”Keenan acknowledges. “The big thing for me was trying to write songs that have the same attitude and caliber that we were used to doing. I didn’t wanna get out there like some 50-year old dude making a mediocre record.”
The album ironically bares its title and inspiration from a 1700s church that had been transformed into a performing arts center. The dressing room adorned with stained glass windows with one window in particular illustrating a man being persecuted with the quote “No Cross No Crown” emblazened across the bottom. Keenan added, “We’re not trying to be on a soapbox, but we used it as a catalyst to write songs around.”
For those looking at an album that begins to define what this quartet has experienced through their tenure apart as well as together they need look no further than “No Cross No Crown“. This album defines the trials and tribulations these four men have experienced together and apart. “Being in a band is like being in a marriage. It has its ups and downs but in the end we are family and thats all that matters to us, “ Reed Mullin explained in our interview.
The album in its pure essesnce is real C.o.C. with hatchets buried and their lives in a place where they are in it for themselves and for the music. Not the trends and not whats hot or new.
“It’s an honor to be back out there and have an opportunity to do it again in a real way and not some washed-up reunion thing. Even before we wrote the record, we were out there for a year seeing there was a demand for it and that there was a void that we could fill. That’s been C.O.C.’s deal from day one. We’re not chasing anybody around. We’re not gonna worry about what the new trends are. C.O.C. is C.O.C.”
The Sabbath roots are more prevelant in this album as well as the raw and epic sounds that most are accustomed to hearing from C.0.C. The brief innerludes that are “No Cross“, “Matre’s Diem” and “Sacred Isolation” elegantly laced between the straight up Southern Rock and Stoner Infused riffs that C.o.C. is known for in “The Luddite“, “Little Man“, and “Forgive Me” make this an instant classic, just like a killer Scotch, however, “No Cross No Crown” has already aged a metalistic twelve years.
